BUDDHIST REPRESENTATIVES FROM SEVEN COUNTRIES GATHER IN CHINA FOR PEACE PRAYER

NANNING,CHINA:The 2026 Lancang-Mekong Buddhist Exchange Conference,themed “Lighting the Heart Lamp for Shared Prosperity,”was held on Friday in Nanning,in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Representatives of Buddhist communities from seven countries took part in a prayer ceremony for world peace at Tianning Temple in Nanning.

The conference was hosted by the Buddhist Association of China and organized by the Guangxi Buddhist Association.

More than 100 Buddhist representatives and guests from China,Cambodia,Laos,Myanmar, Thailand,Vietnam and Sri Lanka attended the event,focusing on exchanges and cooperation among Buddhist communities and the building of a Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future.

FLOODWATERS SWEEP CARS AND BUS INTO SEA IN MEXICO’S LOS CABOS

LOS CABOS,MEXICO:Torrential rain associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Vance triggered severe flooding in the resort city of Los Cabos,in Mexico’s Baja California Sur state۔
Powerful floodwaters swept several cars and a bus onto the beach,leaving vehicles stranded in the sand and near the shoreline.A crane was brought in to tow the bus off the beach,while municipal police cordoned off an area beneath a bridge where vehicles had been carried towards the sea.

The US National Hurricane Center issued its final advisory on Vance on Thursday,saying the system no longer had a well-defined centre. The agency warned that swells generated by the storm’s remnants could affect coastal areas of southwestern and west-central Mexico,as well as the southern Baja California Peninsula.

ATLANTA VOTERS TURN EARLY POLLING INTO COMMUNITY EVENT AS GEORGIA VOTING PERIOD ENDS
ATLANTA,GEORGIA:As Georgia’s early voting period came to a close on Friday,October 30, voters in Atlanta headed to the polls amid music,food trucks and calls for greater participation in the democratic process.

Local civic engagement group Georgia Stand-Up hosted a“Party at the Polls”event outside the C.T.Martin Recreational Center, with a DJ and volunteers encouraging residents to cast their ballots.

Georgia’s early voting period ran from October 13 through October 30 ahead of Election Day on November 3.The state recorded more than 2.3 million early in-person votes,surpassing its previous midterm record.

Voters are choosing candidates in closely watched races,including the U.S.Senate contest between Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff and Republican challenger Mike Collins, and the governor’s race between Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms and Republican Rick Jackson.

THOUSANDS GATHER IN TRAPPES TO HONOUR VICTIMS OF DEADLY SHOOTING

TRAPPES,FRANCE:Thousands gathered in the Paris suburb of Trappes on Friday evening, October 30,to pay tribute to victims of a shooting that killed one person and wounded seven others a week earlier.
Anti-terror prosecutors said the 39-year-old suspect,identified as Kevin T,told investigators he had sought victims of Muslim,African or North African background.Authorities said his belongings included a copy of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf and stickers referencing France’s far-right National Rally party.
The shooting has intensified debate over racism and far-right politics in France ahead of the country’s presidential election.
Trappes Mayor Ali Rabeh accused the National Rally of contributing to an atmosphere of racism,while the party rejected any connection between its politics and the attack.
French President Emmanuel Macron also accused the National Rally of fostering what he described as an atmosphere of racism in the country.
At the tribute,residents called for unity and opposition to racism,with one local resident saying people who support peaceful coexistence far outnumber those promoting hatred.

15,000 PROTESTERS ENTER GENOA PORT AS ITALY-WIDE DEMONSTRATIONS DEMAND HIGHER WAGES

GENOA,ITALY:Around 15,000 port workers, students and other demonstrators entered the port of Genoa on Friday,October 30,protesting the use of ports for arms shipments and highlighting the deaths of seafarers in conflicts from the Gulf to the Black Sea.

Tens of thousands of students and workers took to the streets across Italy,demanding higher wages and stronger public services while protesting the rising cost of living and increased military spending.

The grassroots union Unione Sindacale di Base called a 24-hour general strike,with demonstrations planned in more than 40 cities.

The protests are part of a wider wave of demonstrations across Europe,including in France,Spain,Belgium and Albania,driven by concerns over living costs and other economic and social issues.

FOUR MEMBERS OF SAME FAMILY,INCLUDING TWO MINOR GIRLS,MURDERED IN SKARDU

Four members of the same family,including a married couple and their two young daughters, were allegedly murdered after unidentified assailants broke into their home in the Madina Colony area of Skardu.

According to initial reports, the victims included two girls aged one and five.

The incident triggered fear and panic in the area,prompting a heavy police deployment at the crime scene.

Police said the deceased husband was reportedly from Talo Broq,while his wife belonged to Parachinar.

Investigators collected evidence from the crime scene and launched a search operation to trace and arrest the suspects.The motive behind the killings remains unclear.
