Where do I begin to tell the story of how great a love can be....I know, it harkens back to a very secular song from my younger days, but that line has been on my mind all day. Everything today at Carterville First United was about love...about the transforming love of God...a love unlike any other you will ever experience.

The morning began with prayer with a group of scouts who are charted from the church. That group reached out a couple of weeks ago and asked if people of the church would pray for them before they headed out on a long trip! What a blessing that they asked and what a blessing to engage with this group on a spiritual level. The love of God sure was present!

Today marked the second, monthly trip, of the newly established bus ministry. Four women, some of whom used to be present in services, and now who mostly worship online, were transported to church to sit in the pew once again with their church family. The love of God, led to the startup of this ministry, and each person on that bus expressed gratitude and their love for their church family. And that love was reciprocated by those who welcomed them.

June, marked the change of the 10X10 focus to missions. Four local missions will be featured throughout the month. Today, the congregation watched a short video about the Gum Drop Kids program. The founders were present to receive a check from monies raised a couple of months ago as a result of a fasting week. Love is evident in the purpose of this community mission that provides weekend food to over 1900 school aged children from September through mid-May. Today was the church's "official" kick-off of the second annual backpack mission with the school district. Love sure does abound in that mission!

A beautiful anthem was performed by the choir..."To Honor Christ".

Pastor Larry delivered a powerful message about love, based upon the text, Isaiah 58:6-9. Caring about the those struggling in the world is required of Christians. Not caring about others, isn't an option. God is a God of love. As His children love is a part of our DNA.

The service ended with Holy Communion. Evidence that while we were still sinners, God sent His son to die for us. For God so loved the world....

Yesterday, was a great day at Carterville First United Methodist Church! It was Trinity Sunday and Rick Whitecotton filled in for Pastor Larry. Rick delivered a message based upon the Trinity and its mysteries and about linking the Head, Heart, and Hands. It was a thought provoking message.

The Jean Jones Scholarship Committee presented checks to this year's four recipients. Such impressive and articulate young people! Congratulations! What an honor to be a part of your educational journey.

This year's scholarships were funded by the Jean Jones Memorial Scholarship along with funds given in remembrance of Mary Slider. Each woman was a member of the church and each loved and taught children. It is a blessing that generations to come will continue to be supported in their educational pursuits by the legacy of these women.

If you are looking for a place to belong, the Carterville First United Methodist Church, might just be that place! You are invited EVERY week to come as you are, join in, engage, and experience the transforming love of God! Not ready to sit in a pew yet? Services are livestreamed on Sunday morning at 9:30 am and are available on demand on the church's YouTube channel .

Welcome Home! There is always a place for you here!

Would you like to be involved in serving others? If so, we might have a volunteer opportunity for you.

We are looking for a person to help deliver Meals on Wheels with another person on the first Monday of each month. We are also looking for people to serve as backups on the other days of the first FULL week of each month. Typically, two people deliver these meals. One drives and the other takes the meal to the door of the person receiving it.

Pick up of the meals is at Riggin Pillatsch Burke Funeral Home in Carterville at 9:45 am. The entire delivery time is 1.5 to 2 hours. Meals are not delivered on holidays and on some days when the weather is too bad to navigate the roads. The route is clear and is outlined in writing. The first time you deliver, a person from the church would go along to help with training.

If you have time, once a month to be a part of this program, please contact the church office at 618-985-4511 or via email at [email protected].

Thank you for considering this opportunity!

So many exciting things happening at the Carterville First United Methodist Church over the past few weeks!

On Mother's Day, Donna Bogard was named Woman of the Year. Donna does so many things at the church and serves with a willing heart. Congratulations Donna!

The men of the church celebrated and honored the women with a breakfast a couple of weeks ago! Thanks to the guys for all you do!

The outside of the building continues to get updates to help visitors find the building entrances and to give a facelift to the old awning. Welcome Home! There's a place for YOU!

Graduates were honored and each received a gift from their church! Always wonderful to celebrate the accomplishments of the church family!

May's 10X10 theme has been sharing a meal. Pastor Larry has challenged each person to share a meal in various ways. Yesterday those in attendance shared bread and something about who they were remembering on this Memorial Day weekend. The 10X10 program has provided a way for the congregation to grow in discipleship and to stay connected through shared challenges throughout the week. June's focus will be on missions.

Looking for a place to belong? Looking for a traditional church experience? Look no further, Carterville First United Methodist Church invites you to engage and experience the transforming love of God! You are invited in-person or via YouTube, live or on demand. Services are at 9:30 am on Sundays. If you want to check out the services before you come through the doors, go to YouTube . Come as you are...anytime!

Recently, I have been involved with interviewing job candidates. One of the questions we asked each of them was, what three words would you use to describe yourself? I want to answer that question for you as it relates to today’s service…dynamic…engaging…soul stirring!

Today…a long prayed for and anticipated ministry came to fruition. Our bus, was used to pick up a group of worshippers at Holly Brook! What a blessing for everyone…smiles and happy conversations all around! We love these faithful members who have been joining us online. So blessed to have them back in the pews today!

Today…two faithful online members who live in Wisconsin, officially joined the Carterville First United Methodist Church! What a blessing! Welcome Dave and Randy! We love you and are thankful for the blessings you bring to us!

Today…Pastor Larry continued with a message from Luke and focused on the Emaus road experience. As we kicked off a new month of the 10X10 program, we were challenged to share a meal with someone we have never dined with before. It doesn’t have to be someone new in your life, just someone with whom you have never shared a meal. Thanks Larry for always providing us with messages that bless us that we may bless others.

Want to experience today for yourself? Go to our YouTube channel and worship!

I can’t wait until next week! Why don’t you join me? You are always invited to worship either in person or online. There’s a place for you at Carterville First United Methodist! Welcome Home!
