God’s kingdom is not built by accident. It advances through hearts that are prepared, disciples who are equipped, and believers who are willing to fight for what truly matters. Beginning June 7, First Methodist Church of Carrier Mills invites you to join us for "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"—a three-part sermon series drawn from the Kingdom Parables of Matthew 13. Over three Sundays, we will explore what Jesus teaches about the condition of our hearts, the hidden work of God’s kingdom, and the incomparable value of following Christ. In a world filled with distractions, confusion, and competing loyalties, these parables call us to spiritual readiness and faithful discipleship.

On June 7, "Prepare the Heart" (Matthew 13:1–23) examines the Parable of the Sower and challenges us to consider whether our hearts are truly ready to receive the Word of God. On June 14, "Equip the Soul" (Matthew 13:24–43) explores the Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds, reminding us that God is at work even when we cannot see it and calling us to patient faithfulness. Finally, on June 21, "Fight for Peace" (Matthew 13:44–52) focuses on the Parables of the Treasure, the Pearl, and the Net, revealing that the Kingdom of God is worth everything we have and every sacrifice we make.

Join us each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at First Methodist Church, 109 E. Washington Street in Carrier Mills. Whether you are searching for answers, looking for a church home, or seeking to grow deeper in your faith, this series will challenge and encourage you to live as a citizen of God’s kingdom. First Methodist Church is "A Place to Belong. A Call to Serve." Come discover what it means to prepare your heart, equip your soul, and live for the King.

This Sunday at 9:30am at First Methodist Church of Carrier Mills, Rev. Dr. Christopher Wise will preach a powerful stand-alone message from Matthew 10:26–33 titled “He Is Not Safe. But He Is Good.” In a world that wants a comfortable and harmless version of God, Jesus reminds us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. God is not a teddy bear. He is the Lion. He is holy fire. Join us as we worship the God who is not tame, yet perfectly good, and discover what it means to fear God and fear nothing else. "When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting." (Acts 2:1-2, NRSV)

Today churches remember and celebrate Pentecost, commemorating the day the promise was fulfilled in sending the Advocate or Helper. It reminds us that, with the Holy Spirit, amazing occurrences take place. Imagine being there, feeling the Spirit, being given the power to speak another language and communicate with others from all over. This showing of God's power is an example of the power that can fill us to do great things in His name.

🙏 Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Fill us so that we may faithfully serve You and boldly share the hope of Jesus Christ. Amen.

On Pentecost, we celebrate the powerful moment the Holy Spirit filled the believers and the Church was born. What began as a small gathering became a global movement of faith, hope, and truth. Today, we remember: the same Spirit is still moving, still empowering, and still calling us to share scriptural holiness across the globe. 🔥

Join us Sunday, May 24, at 9:30am at First Methodist Church of Carrier Mills as we conclude our Work in Progress series with the message, “Built on Purpose,” based on Ephesians 4:30–5:1. God is not randomly piecing our lives together. Through grace, forgiveness, love, and spiritual formation, He is shaping us into people who reflect His character and carry out His purpose in the world. In this final message of the series, Rev. Dr. Christopher Wise will explore what it means to live as people who are being built together into something lasting and holy. No matter where you are in your journey, God is still working, still forming, and still building something meaningful in your life. Come and celebrate the good work God continues to do in us all.

Join us Sunday, May 17, at 9:30am at First Methodist Church of Carrier Mills as we continue our Work in Progress series with the message, “Growing Slowly,” based on Psalm 27:1–4. In a world obsessed with instant results, God often works through patience, steady faithfulness, and quiet formation. Just like a building takes time to strengthen its foundation, spiritual growth is often slower than we expect but deeper than we realize. Rev. Dr. Christopher Wise will explore how God forms courage, confidence, and endurance in us over time as we learn to trust His presence and timing. If you’ve ever felt frustrated with the pace of your spiritual growth, this message is for you. Come discover how God is still building something strong in your life.
