Matthew 6:1 – It is possible to do the right things for the wrong reasons. Jesus begins Matthew 6 by confronting a faith that looks spiritual on the outside but is driven by the desire to be noticed on the inside. The issue is not whether people ever see our faith. The issue is who we are living for. This week, Jesus challenges us to examine our motives and discover what it means to live for the Father rather than for applause.

Week 12 – Like Your Father Matthew 5:48 – August 23 Jesus ends Matthew 5 with a call that feels impossible: “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” But this is not a call to shallow perfectionism. It is a call to mature, wholehearted love that reflects the character of the Father. As we close Part 1 of the Sermon on the Mount, we are reminded that the goal of discipleship is not just better behavior—it is becoming more like our Father.

Love Your Enemies
Matthew 5:38–47 – The way of Jesus breaks the cycle of revenge. In one of the most challenging sections of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls His disciples to reject retaliation and love even their enemies. This kind of love is not natural, easy, or sentimental. It is kingdom love—the kind of love that reflects the Father and looks like the cross.
