📍 New Study Alert: Dr. Qiana Brown is conducting a new, community-driven study that will allow community members, universities and police officers to work together to help prevent opioid use disorder. Learn more about the study below and consider joining her team!

Do you live in New Jersey? Do you want to be part of an awesome community-driven study to help prevent opioid use disorder (OUD)? If so, consider joining Dr. Qiana Brown, assistant professor at Rutgers University School of Social Work, in this effort. She is leading an NIH-funded community-based participatory research study to help prevent OUD in Camden County, NJ. She's recruiting people to join a community-academic-police-partnership (CAPP) Advisory Board to help inform the development and implementation of a New Jersey State Police (NJSP)-led wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) opioid use surveillance pilot program.

Wastewater is water that goes down drains (e.g., toilet or other home or business drains) that contains urine and f***s, for example. Wastewater can be used to monitor certain diseases and health behaviors like opioid use and can help prevention experts like social workers and public health professionals determine whether a neighborhood needs OUD prevention resources. The CAPP Advisory Board will determine the potential benefits, risks and unintended consequences of using WBE for opioid use surveillance and ensure that the NJSP-led WBE opioid use surveillance pilot program is informed by the community and designed and implemented to benefit and not harm communities in need.

To learn more about the study or to join the CAPP Advisory Board review the attached flyer and contact Dr. Brown's graduate research assistant (see the flyer for the contact information). This study is a collaboration between University School of Social Work , University School of Engineering and the Jersey State Police (and is funded by NIH/NCATS/NJ ACTS award UL1TR003017).
