Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

It seems we often confuse confidence with arrogance. Arrogance says, “I deserve to be here, in fact, you are blessed because I have arrived.” That is NOT how we should approach the Throne of Grace.

I am reminded of my baby girl. Before she could crawl she would often wiggle her way into tight spaces on her belly. I often think of approaching the throne of grace in this way. On my belly, inching closer ready to bring my petition before the Lord.

I can hear the chorus in back shouting “But is says to come boldly before the Lord” Yes, the term boldly means in frankness, bluntly or,
in other words, be honest with God and yourself. True worship is recognizing who God is and who we are.

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

Our redemption DOES NOT lie with the President of the United States

Our problems DO NOT lie with the President of the United States

Those are the results of our sins. Our sins affect more than just us personally, but they affect our families, friends, the church and our community.

OUR REDEMPTION ONLY LIES WITH CHRIST. If we want to see change in this country it will begin with God’s people on their knees in repentance, in humility, asking God to have mercy on us because we surely do not deserve it.

The Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and the first step in repentance. If being glad or mocking others was your response to the tragic news that affected our neighbors in the north end of the parish, it is time to examine your heart.

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18

May the Lord be with the families of these young people as they navigate tragedy and grief in the days ahead.
