Watching for dust
BoJack sat under the broken shade of the the big mesquite tree that stood about thirty yards from the front of his house and stared out at the county road that ran by his property.
That old county road was gravel.
“County never saw fit to even chip seal that road”, BoJack thought.
He had become accustomed to having a good coat of dust on his truck.
It was Saturday afternoon and BoJack stared at the road.
He was lonely. Ever since his wife had passed he had tried to become accustomed to being lonely.
“But it sure would be good to just sit and talk to someone a while”, he thought.
He kept staring at the road.
BoJack wondered if one of the kids or some old friend might come by today.
“The church group used to do visitations on Saturday”, he remembered.
His mind went back to when his wife was living and the kids were still home.
“What I would give “, he said out loud.
BoJack reached down for his tea glass and was about to take a drink when he saw it.
There was a cloud of dust moving down that gravel county road.
“Maybe that’s old Bob coming by or one of the kids”, he thought.
He realized he was leaning forward in his chair expectantly.
BoJack watched the dust, hoping to see it turn toward his house.
“Could be the church group”, he thought.
The dust cloud moved along rapidly.
BoJack tried to determine if it was slowing as it came to his drive.
He sat back in his chair and sighed as he saw it continue down the road past him.
“I guess it’s just you and me Lord”, BoJack said out loud again.
“It sure would be nice if someone would have joined us. But one thing I can count on, I always have your company”.
BoJack sat back and set his eyes on the road again. Looking for another cloud of dust indicating someone might be coming to see him.
May God open our eyes to the lonely ones around us, and give us a brokenness for their need for a few moments, a smile and a kind word.
In a world of so many people, there are many who sit forgotten and lonely.
If we truly know the love of God in our lives, should we not seek those that need us to share that love with them?
James 1:27
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
