As of late, the Holy Spirit has been speaking to me about an outpouring that is coming, and about what to look for in the churches where He is going to move.
I keep hearing, “Look for the churches that are shifting their gaze. Those will be the churches of outpouring.”
There is something happening in the spirit, and I believe God is bringing His people back to the place where our eyes are fixed on Him again.
Not the platform.
Not the personality.
Not the production.
Not the preference.
His glory.
True revival is marked by awe and reverence for God.
Psalm 27:4 says, “One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD.”
David wasn't asking for more attention.
He wasn't asking for a bigger platform.
He wanted to behold Him.
And I believe one of the great distinctions of the churches where genuine outpouring will take place will be that they are becoming obsessed with the presence of God again.
They will shift their gaze.
They will look away from themselves and looking unto Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2 says, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
There is power in a church that knows how to look at Him.
Because what you continually behold will eventually become what you continually exalt.
And what you exalt, you make room for.
I believe God is looking for churches that are willing to spend deep time in worship, not simply singing songs, but exalting the King.
Churches where worship isn't filler between announcements.
Churches where worship isn't entertainment.
Churches where people aren't constantly looking at the clock.
Churches where the congregation can linger in His presence because He is worthy of their attention.
Psalm 22:3 says, “But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel.”
There is something about a people who collectively turn their gaze toward God and begin to exalt Him.
He enthrones Himself in the praises of His people.
There are churches right now that God is teaching how to build an altar again.
Not an altar built around personalities.
Not an altar built around charisma.
Not an altar built around emotionalism.
An altar built around the glory of God.
And when the church gets low before Him, He is exalted.
When He is exalted, His presence becomes precious.
And when His presence becomes precious, people begin to tremble again.
There is a holy awe that accompanies genuine encounters with God.
Isaiah saw Him and said, “Woe is me!”
Moses encountered Him and took off his sandals.
Ezekiel fell on his face.
John saw Him and fell at His feet as dead.
When God reveals His glory, human pride loses its voice.
A true marker of outpouring will be churches that make much of repentance and worship.
Joel 2:13 says, “Now, therefore,” says the LORD, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning. So rend your heart, and not your garments.”
Rend your heart, not your garments.
God is not looking for outward displays that aren't accompanied by inward surrender.
He is looking for hearts that have actually been broken before Him.
He is looking for churches that have stopped asking, “How much can I get away with?” and have started asking, “How close can I get to Jesus?”
And there is a difference.
There are churches that want God's power without God's purity.
They want the fire without the altar.
They want the glory without the surrender.
They want revival without repentance.
But I believe the Spirit is raising up churches that are saying, “God, search us. Purify us. Make us holy.”
“God, create in us a clean heart.”
There is a generation being prepared to carry something holy.
And God is cleansing the vessels that He intends to fill.
So look for the churches that are shifting their gaze.
Look for churches where worship is becoming deeper.
Look for churches where repentance is becoming genuine.
Look for churches where holiness is being
preached without apology and grace is being preached without compromise.
Look for churches where people are hungry for the Word.
Look for churches where prayer is no longer a formality.
Look for churches where the presence of God is more important than the program.
Look for churches where Jesus is becoming the center again.
Those will be churches of outpouring.
In Acts 2, people heard a “heard a sound from heaven.”
The Spirit was poured out.
And the result was that people began declaring “the wonderful works of God.”
When the Spirit fills a people, their gaze turns upward.
Their mouths begin to magnify God.
Their hearts become consumed with His glory.
And I believe this is what the Holy Spirit is doing right now.
He is shifting the gaze of His Church.
From entertainment to encounter.
From performance to presence.
From platform to altar.
From personality to Jesus.
From self exaltation to God exaltation.
From outward religion to inward transformation.
And when the Church looks at Him again, I believe we are going to see something we haven't seen in a long time.
A holy awe.
A deep reverence.
A return to repentance.
A hunger for His presence.
A restoration of the altar.
So don't just look for the loudest churches.
Don't just look for the biggest churches.
Don't just look for the most impressive churches.
Look for the churches that have shifted their gaze.
Because when a church gets its eyes back on Jesus, its priorities begin to change.
Its worship deepens.
Its repentance becomes real.
Its hunger increases.
Its holiness becomes visible.
Look for the churches that are getting low again.
Look for the churches where the worshippers are not performing for God but bowing before Him.
Look for the churches where hearts are being searched, lives are being surrendered, altars are being rebuilt, and Jesus is being exalted above everything else.
Those are the churches you will find the glory resting upon.
