This morning I’m reflecting from the quiet beauty of the Outer Banks, and I feel the Lord’s whisper: “Don’t overthink it.” We often struggle with “paralysis by analysis.” God is clear … we need to give that up. So much of our spiritual paralysis comes not from lack of care, but from trying to figure everything out before we move. The story of Abraham and the ram caught in the thicket opens us to something deeper. How we, too, get tangled in our own thickets of over-analysis. Swedenborg writes that “spiritual people become caught in the tangle of earthly knowledge about religious truth” (Secrets of Heaven §2831), and it’s that entanglement that clouds perception. Yet the soul, as poet Mary Oliver reminds us, is made entirely of attentiveness. When we let go of dissecting every detail and instead become fully present, something beautiful happens: we see clearly, we act lovingly, and we serve wisely. Faith isn’t just belief. It’s a living, breathing attentiveness to the needs right in front of us. Today, I invite you to breathe, to be still, and to notice what God is already showing you.

Let go of overthinking and discover how spiritual attentiveness brings clarity, peace, and the power to love right where you are.

One of the great challenges of parenting is that shift from when our children are children to when our children are adults. We need to let go of a lot, but are there still things we can do that will help them? What do we do when they make decisions that we would make differently?
