Tonight, at 7pm, Maundy Thursday, there will be a special informal Holy Supper Vespers in the Church Hall. It was on Maundy Thursday (the Thursday before Easter) that the Lord ate the Last Supper with His disciples, and instituted the Holy Supper. It was also on Maundy Thursday that the Lord washed His disciples’ feet and said, “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you” (John 13:14-15). In this special informal vespers service, we will take the Holy Supper together, and there will also be an optional opportunity to have your feet washed and/or to wash one another’s feet. Washing each other’s feet corresponds to a special kind of love for the neighbor, and the ritual of reenacting it can be a powerful reminder of this. (If you do not want your feet to be washed you are free to indicate this by leaving your shoes on during this part of the service.)
