He wasn't alone! And that terrified him! But that footprint turned out to be the beginning of the best thing that ever happened to him.

Have you ever seen a bowl of fruit, with plump shiny apples, oranges and grapes? And then you pick up an apple, and notice it's too light, it's hard, and there was no give to it.
It looks so right and but feels so off. Why? Because it's just for looks. That fruit has no root, no seed, and no life.

I believe a lot of people have been handed fake fruit and been told, "This is discipleship." It looks right, it shines right, and it sits in the church bowl year after year. But Jesus didn't say, "Go and make decorations." He said, "Go and make disciples."

So today we're looking at several things that look like discipleship but they aren't. And it’s easy to be deceived when you’re surrounded by it. But we don’t have to settle for a hollow decoration when Jesus is offering eternal and full abundant life – springing forth from the Holy Spirit inside of you.

If God put up a help-wanted ad, "Wanted: one person to turn a nation around?" Who would respond? Probably the best educated ones from the top schools. Those with a lifetime of privilege, and the best personalities and social skills. The smartest, best-looking ones. The ones with the best connections and proven abilities to raise money. And, what if God said none of those had the qualities He is looking for? He MIGHT be looking for YOU!

Can't Live on Gravy. Won't Eat Dry Meat. Bring the Balance!

The preacher had everyone whooping and shouting! Then, he lowered his voice and said: "I've been up here giving you gravy. Not one bite of meat. Just gravy! And you’re lapping it up like it’s a delicacy! Some of you give your people nothing BUT gravy every week.

Some others of y’all give nothing but meat. You’re PROUD of that! “I just give them the meat of the word!” But you’re not even cooking it right! You slap a BOILED steak on their plate and wonder why they don’t eat it!
Then he started teaching and opening up some of God’s principles for bringing the Word of God. That meat and gravy metaphor isn’t just for preachers. It's for every single one of us.

“If you fill up on dessert, you won’t have any appetite for dinner!” There’s nothing wrong with dessert. We all love dessert, but you can’t live on it. Its place is at the end of the meal, like a mini-reward for eating all your veggies. Dessert first takes your appetite for what you need to be receiving, so you can grow and be strong and healthy. Dessert isn't the problem. The problem is the order. And it’s too easy to live our whole lives out of order. Buying before we can afford. Committing before we're ready. Agreeing to something before We even understand what it involves. And today, we're gonna bite into the problem and chew on some solutions, and get rid of that spiritual stomachache!

1 Bad Splice, 1 Dark Road, 5 Life Lessons
Heading back from a friend's house out in the country, on a dark road, no street lights. The moon was behind the clouds. I'm blasting my tunes, the bass was hammering my chest, lights were on high beam. Everything's great - until my music cuts out and my headlights die! I'm in pitch blackness, can't see the road, and not only am I in danger, I am a danger to anyone coming down the road who won't see me until they've almost crashed into me! And that is when God starting teaching me Five Life Lessons from this situation!
