Welcome new members!

Adventist Women Leaders added more than 40 new members to its growing community at North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists Replenish 2026 Adventist Ministries Convention. AWL President Ann Roda (pictured), vice president for Mission Integration and Spiritual Care at Adventist HealthCare, and Vice President Janet Ledesma, associate dean and professor in the School of Leadership at Andrews University, discussed the needs of women leaders with people from across the United States and Canada.

Those conversations sparked new ideas for engagement, so stay tuned.

Roughly 100 women from across the NAD, from as far as the Territory of Guam, gathered to focus on spiritual grounding, leadership resilience, and holistic growth. It wasn’t just another leadership summit but a space to find rest, strength, and wisdom to lead with clarity and confidence.

Adventist Women Leaders (AWL), an initiative of the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists (NAD), created a space for renewal at their 2025 conference “Soul Care for Women Leaders,” held recently in Denver, Colorado.

Geneva Bryan, a teacher and nurse, was the first African American woman to serve as a General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church departmental officer.

In 1942, she became assistant secretary for Health Education in the General Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist's North American Colored Department. As an experienced public health nurse, Bryan visited schools and churches teaching health principles and solicited the help of city health departments and the Red Cross for training and immunizations.

Bryan also served as a consulting editor for Message Magazine.

Albertina Simon was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1917 and became the first Brazilian teacher at the Brazilian Adventist Seminary (now UNASP São Paulo) in 1918. Simon taught Portuguese, geography, Brazilian history, math and physical education.

Amazing women leaders have made monumental contributions to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. We're so glad to celebrate them this Women's History Month.
