Week Ten - Sept. 2, 2026 Assurance: Inner Peace

100 Bible Verses Campaign: Memorization tips and thoughts.
The goal is Christ-like renewal of the mind that results in Christ-like actions, not mere knowledge.

See July 5 2026 Calendar Bulletin for General Instructions. My translation is NKJV. Choose your favorite.

Tip for these verses - Key Words: Life and Son and they are one thought.

19. 1 John 5:11 “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.”

In the preceding verses esp. vs 9-10, John makes the point that the audience accepts the testimony of men, 2 or 3 witnesses, to prove a matter. How much more should they accept God’s testimony about His Son. And if you don’t, you are calling God a liar. Whoa! That’s pointed…and true.

God’s testifies - it’s personal. It’s pointed. He has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son.

20. 1 John 5:12 “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

This is the Bottom Line!

The world tries…tries to make everything seem complicated - invented Latin terms and endless commentary. Oh, and don’t forget all the steps and levels.

God has drawn a line - he who has the Son has life. Period. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life. Period.

This is the answer to the final examine - What did you do with His Son? Did you accept His offer of salvation or ignore it? What assurance for those who accept God’s offer of eternal life in His Son.
‭‭
Bonus: Psalm 56:3 “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.”

Ps 56 setting: David was in hiding from King Saul. So desperate, he tried to hide among Israel’s enemies - the Philistines. Yes, like where Goliath had lived. Those Philistines. He was in a fearful, frenzied madness. This verse brought David hope.

This week’s verses add different types of peace and assurance. Yes, what peace to know you have eternal life as a gift through faith in the Son.

But another assuring truth - when life becomes overwhelming and you aren’t sure you can make it, trust in God. Have faith in God. He saved you and He will see you through.

A member of our church told me this verse was on a pillow she slept with when she battled cancer many years ago. It was a comfort. May it be for you too.
‭‭
‭‭

And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

Topic: Listening

17. 1 John 5:14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
An outline of the verse helps us memorize it.

A. Preface - the key word here is confidence/assurance. I John’s theme is knowing/assurance the believer should have in Christ and how to live for Him. Here- assurance in prayer.

B. Precondition - according to His will…like the Lord’s Model Prayer - the believer’s relation with God is first about God: His name, His kingdom, His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Prayer expresses this. How can you know God’s will? When you know God’s Word - the Bible - you know God’s will. Jesus taught us that we rarely are given the timing of answered prayer but we can know His will and pray accordingly.

C. Promise - He hears us. What a comfort and awesome thought. God hears your prayer, dear follower of Christ.

Now the next verse carries this theme of assurance further.

18. I John 5:15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Wow! You can’t separate this verse from the previous one - it’s a continuous thought. Asking according to His Will opens the door wide - Ask anything according to His will and you will receive God’s will manifest in your life. God loves to give good gifts to his children who ask. Matt 7:11

Bonus: Matthew 21:22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

Now this bonus echos the truth of I John 5:14-15 and our children in Bible Drills learn it.

Again, conversing with God is imperative to knowing and growing in your relationship with Him. Here we are reminded how important trust is with God. Prayer like all aspects of our walk with God requires believing/trusting in Him. Do you have any significant friendship that does not include trust? Soul-level trust and honesty? Maybe in name only, maybe a Facebook kind
of friend, but not a real one.

From the beginning, in the Garden, trust/believing is the basis.

Talk to God, acknowledge His glory, express your gratitude, seek His will, honor Him with requests that are befitting of His power, and enjoy the journey of walking and working with Christ as His kingdom comes.
