INSPIRATION:Some of the Jews of Jesus' day thought they had good reasons for rejecting Him. They thought they knew he was from Nazareth and the mere natural son of Mary and Joseph. The Bible prophesied the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem of Judah, and though Jesus had been, they did not know it. He came from the Father, but they truly in that regard "did not know from where he came. "

PRAYER:We know, O Lord, that many men will find some excuse to not believe in you. We know that Satan blinds the minds of those who believe not. And we know that you reveal yourself to your people. Help us to reason from the Scriptures and seek to convince men of your Gospel, but let us not trust in our ability to argue well but in your Spirit revealing Christ to men's hearts and minds. Amen.

INSPIRATION:There is an old distinction between "profession" and "confession" which seems to apply here. To profess is to simply make a claim with your mouth to be a Christian; to confess is to give witness from the heart of what you know to be true. Those who confess Christ and are not afraid to do so before other men, will have their reward from Him.

PRAYER:May I make a true and sound profession, Lord, of Your Person, Your work of salvation, and of all You have done for me personally in my life. May I never deny You, never be ashamed to testify for You before men. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER:All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

INSPIRATION:To whom does Jesus give "rest?" To those who are burdened down with their load of sin and who, however much they may labor to keep God's Law, cannot do so. Jesus gives rest to the sinful soul, even the most vile of all men, if only it rests in Him.

PRAYER:We know, Lord, You have said that there is no peace for the wicked (Isaiah 48:22). And what is peace but rest to our souls? But those who cease from their own works and rest in You find true peace. You bid us be busy at work, Lord, but in the midst of activity for Your glory, You bid our hearts rest at peace on the merits of Your Son. Amen.

INSPIRATION:It is hard to imagine how our Jesus, holy and perfect in every way, came to live on earth amongst men. In our world full of sin and everything that opposes the light, he was birthed as a baby and lived his life among men. He became man so that he may take on man's sin on the cross. Without living as man, Jesus would not have been able to reconcile mankind to our Lord. And, Jesus did it all knowing he would have to suffer for us. It is amazing love.

PRAYER:Dear God, thank you for sending your son, Jesus Christ, to live as a man on earth so that he may die for our sins. We know we do not deserve this atonement and it is only because of your mercy and grace that we have been liberated from sin and reconciled to you, O Lord. You are holy and precious to us. Help us to tell others about your good news. In Jesus' name, amen.

INSPIRATION:God is utterly righteous. He loves righteousness and hates iniquity. His face shines approvingly on those who walk uprightly, but he is angry with the wicked every day. (Psalm 7:11) It is impossible to please God while being unrighteous, both as to outward conduct and the character of one's soul.

PRAYER:O Righteous Father, all of Your decisions and all of Your actions are just. You, Lord, love righteousness and demand it in us. But we are unrighteous by birth; we were conceived and born fallen creatures. We are Your children, wearing the righteousness of Your Son. Help us to live righteously before You and do those things that please You. Amen.

INSPIRATION:How do you wake up in the morning? Do you arise thanking the Lord for a new day to experience his blessings? As believers, we should be filled with gladness when we recognize God's mercy. This is a feeling that we should rejoice in day after day. We must not grow complacent to God's unfailing love. When we rise, we should honor the Lord with our rejoicing.

PRAYER:Dear God, help me to be reminded of your goodness with each sunset and sunrise. These are your creations, O Lord. Your mercy is beyond what I deserve – thank you, Lord. Your steadfast love and faithfulness cause me to rejoice and fill me with gladness. May I live this day with a glad heart so that others may be drawn to you. In Jesus' name, amen.

INSPIRATION:If we are lazy and do not make needful repairs on a building, it will decay and fall apart over time. In the same way, the Church cannot stand still doing nothing and expect spiritual progress, nor can an individual Christian. We must be striving after godliness every day.

PRAYER:Make me a fervent servant, busy for Your Kingdom, Lord. Let me rise up and strive after You with all my might. We are all in a fight of faith that we cannot win by sitting idle. Work in us to will and do of Your good pleasure, and let us be a people zealous for good works. Amen.

INSPIRATION:The wicked are often known by their speech. Though they can hide what is in their heart and speak to cover it up, at some point inevitably, of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The wicked are violent against God, His truth, and His people; they rage about looking for some person on whom to vent their anger against God.

PRAYER:O Lord, You have poured down untold blessings of grace upon the head of Your people, but the world is hostile to You, Your Word, and Your children. We walk like Daniel among lions, but You can shut the mouths of the lions. We shine as lights in a pitch-black night, but the darkness cannot overcome the light. We will not fear man, for if God is for us, who can prevail against us? Amen.

INSPIRATION:How unthinkable it is that a mere mortal and sinful man should be ashamed of the very Son of God! How ridiculous that men whose words are full of error and even perverseness should be ashamed of the perfect, holy words that fell from the lips of Christ! And yet, such is often the case. For men are blind to their own condition and to the truth about who Jesus is.

PRAYER:Lord Jesus, may I never be ashamed of You or of Your words. May I never shrink before men to speak Your name in season or to declare Your truths in the right way and time and place. Give me wisdom but also zeal, zeal for Your name and for Your Word. Amen.
