St James the Apostle -

St. James the Apostle, also known as St. James the Greater, was one of Jesus' first disciples and belonged to His inner circle along with Peter and John. The son of Zebedee and the brother of St. John the Apostle, James witnessed many of Christ's most significant moments, including the Transfiguration and the Agony in the Garden. Filled with courage and unwavering faith, he became the first of the Twelve Apostles to be martyred, giving his life for the Gospel around A.D. 44. He is the patron saint of pilgrims, and his shrine in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, has been a destination for Christian pilgrims for centuries. The Church celebrates his feast day on July 25, reminding us to follow Christ with faith, courage, and joyful discipleship.

THE MOST BELOVED MARIAN APPARITIONS

For centuries, millions of Catholics have journeyed to three of the most beloved Marian apparition sites in the world: Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Our Lady of Fatima.

In Guadalupe, Our Lady appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531, leaving behind the miraculous image on his tilma that continues to inspire faith today. In Lourdes, she called St. Bernadette to prayer and penance, and the spring discovered there has become a place of hope for countless pilgrims seeking healing. In Fatima, she entrusted three shepherd children with a message of prayer, conversion, and peace for the whole world.

Though each apparition has its own unique message, they all point to the same truth: to draw hearts closer to Jesus Christ through prayer, repentance, and trust in God's mercy.

Solemnity of St. Peter and St. Paul, apostles | June 29, 2026

The Church celebrates two great apostles: St. Peter and St. Paul.
Considered by many as fundamental pillars of the early Church, they played a major role in making Christianity known to the world.

Born in Bethsaida, St. Peter, originally Simon or Simeon, was a Jewish fisherman and the brother of St. Andrew. He and his brother were among the first, if not the first, people invited by Jesus to follow Him. Jesus bestowed upon Simon the name Peter, meaning "Rock", and gave him the keys to the kingdom of heaven. On the other hand, St. Paul, who was then known as Saul, was a Roman born in Tarsus (modern-day Turkey), a pharisee and a persecutor of Christians. However, while on the way to Damascus, he was struck blind, and heard the voice of Jesus ask: "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" After this encounter, he decided to convert, and was baptized by a disciple in Damascus.

Following Pentecost, St. Peter spent 10 years preaching and performing miracles in Jerusalem, and afterwards travelled to Samaria, Caesarea, Lydda, and other cities; St. Paul similarly spent a decade as a missionary, travelling through the Mediterranean whilst writing to the early churches. The two apostles were martyred near Rome between the years 64-68 A.D. St. Peter, feeling unworthy to share the same death as Jesus, was crucified upside down; St. Paul was beheaded.
