What Moves You?

“What is your heart’s desire? What is the force that drives you? To put it in Biblical terms, what is the treasure of your life? Matthew 6:21 (NKJV) states clearly, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Where is your heart? Find your treasure, and you will find your heart.

What do you spend most of your time doing? If you have a day off, what do you do with it? When you have the opportunity to choose what your time is spent on, what do you spend it on? Name that, and you have also named your treasure, and you have found where your heart is.

As bikers, it is easy to fall into the trap of giving our hearts to our bikes. Maybe we are addicted to the ride, or to keeping them clean, or to keeping them finely tuned. While there is nothing wrong with any of these, as Christian bikers we should always be careful not to give our hearts to our bikes or to anything other than the One we serve.

“For in Him we live and move and have our being,” to quote the apostle Paul (Acts 17:28a, NKJV). Look over your life for just a moment. If you find that you have made anything besides Christ your treasure, and given your heart to anything but Him, then take a moment and repent of that. Ask God to be your treasure. Ask Him to be your all in all.

I pray for each of you today that Christ will be your treasure and that your heart will belong totally to Him.

Forgiveness Will Set You Free

"And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses" (Mark 11:25-26, NKJV).

We are instructed to forgive anything we hold against anyone whenever we stand praying, so that our Heavenly Father will forgive us. Forgiveness is like prayer: it is often talked about but seldom done.

A common thought is that we should forgive only when the person who wronged us does something to deserve it. That is an incorrect view of forgiveness from a biblical standpoint. We can never do anything to earn forgiveness from God; it is a free gift through Jesus’ death. Our forgiveness should not be based on someone deserving it; rather, it should be based on the fact that it is a commandment of God.

Harboring unforgiveness only harms us, not the other person. Jesus wants us to forgive so that we may be set free. Only when we are free from this kind of bo***ge can we truly allow the love of God to flow through us and touch the lives of those around us. Jesus died so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. Only through forgiveness can we experience the joy, the peace, and the freedom that is ours as sons and daughters of God.

If you are harboring unforgiveness, I urge you to call the person, name the issue, and release them, asking for God’s forgiveness. In many cases, this will require you to call or write to the person. Your forgiveness is not conditioned on what they have done or will do, but on your heart's decision to release them and yourself.

Unforgiveness

“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses” (Mark 11:25-26, NKJV).

This setting of scripture deals with unforgiveness and prayer. It states very clearly that when we are praying and we have unforgiveness, we are to forgive that person so that our Heavenly Father may also forgive our trespasses. In verse 26, it states that if we do not forgive, neither will our Heavenly Father forgive our trespasses. Very simply put, when we do not forgive, whether it is justified or not, we block the forgiveness of God in our own life. I realize that this is a troubling thought, but they are God’s words, not mine. God would have us totally set free and in right standing with Him, so we can bring our transgressions to Him and be set free. This is a place we all need to be.

When dealing with unforgiveness, the natural mindset is to forgive people only when they ask for an apology or have done something to deserve it. Otherwise, we feel that there is no need to forgive. In the life of a Christian, unforgiveness will cause two major tragedies. It will grow like a cancer and cause bitterness, hate, and in some cases separation from those we love, and it will cause separation from God. In this situation, we keep ourselves in bo***ge and carry with us constantly the agonizing enemy called unforgiveness. The reason that we are exhorted to forgive in this case is that we might be set free.

I have seen people who had allowed unforgiveness to grow in their lives to the point that they were in constant turmoil and were completely bitter. They lived in a miserable state. This is not God’s will. Do you have unforgiveness in your heart? Is your unforgiveness blocking God’s forgiveness for you? If so, now would be a good time in the quietness of your own heart to pray for whatever area of unforgiveness you have and forgive them. You have other things to do than carry this bitterness with you. Jesus wants you set free so you can be at peace and accomplish what He’s called you to do. Place it in God’s hands and feel the peace of the Spirit of God flood your soul.

Cast Out Worry

“Then He said to His disciples, ‘Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on’” (Luke 12:22, NKJV).

One of the greatest battles I have had to overcome in my life is the battle of worry or fear. When I see a problem, I want to take it into my own hands and solve it immediately. Patience has not been one of my better qualities.

In this passage, Jesus encourages the disciples not to worry but to put their faith in Him. He says neither life nor our body should be of concern to us, but what is important is that we place our total confidence and faith in Him. The disciples had made a major decision to follow Jesus. They traded their worldly professions and securities for what many would have seen as the unknown future.

At this point in their lives, there is a man named Jesus who claims to be the Son of God and encourages them to leave their old lives and follow Him. Can you identify with this? I think we all can. Whatever place we find ourselves in life, Jesus is saying to us, “Follow Me.” He encouraged the disciples that their Heavenly Father knows when a sparrow falls; how much more does He know and care about them or you and me (Matthew 10:29-31)? Jesus constantly taught His disciples that God has the provisions and everything we need. He encourages us to refocus our priorities from self to dependence on Him. When our life, our faith, and our priorities truly rest with Jesus, only then are we able to look into the unknown with total peace and confidence that we not only belong to Jesus but that He will lead us to where He wants us to be. He encourages us to take our anxiety and give it to Him and learn to trust Him with it. We should be thankful that God cares enough to provide for our needs. It is not only okay to ask God for help, but we are encouraged to do so. Only when we become as little children, with our total confidence in Him, can we grow to be who He has called us to be. Worry is putting question marks where God has put periods. It is time that we put periods where we have had question marks.
