Northwest Christian Writers' Association

Northwest Christian Writers' Association We're a group of fiction and nonfiction writers located in the Puget Sound region. Our mission is to equip, empower, and connect Christian writers. Teach others.

We meet monthly at Eastside Church in Bothell, and we would love to have you join us! At NCWA our mission is three-fold:
1. Develop our writing skills. Fiction, non-fiction, magazine articles, devotionals, Web sites ... whatever we write, we want to do it with excellence.
2. We offer critique, encouragement, networking, and training for writers of all experience levels.
3. Encourage each other to

love God more deeply and know Him more fully. We strive to please Him with our prose, but our measure of success in the end is if we've made God more famous through our prose. We believe the story of life is not about us, but about Him. Our members come from all over the Puget Sound area and range in age from teens to octogenarians. Whether you're a veteran or are exploring the arena of writing for the first time, you'll fit right in. We'd love to have you join us.

Did you know the Renewal Conference includes a Teen Track designed just for young writers?

This is an exciting writing opportunity perfect for teen writers who are passionate about storytelling. Through these sessions, teens will have the opportunity to strengthen their writing skills, explore storytelling techniques, and gain insight from an author actively working in both publishing and film.

We’re especially excited that Nova McBee—screenwriter and award-winning author of the YA Calculated series—will be leading the Teen Track. Her books have received multiple awards and are currently being developed for film, making her a uniquely encouraging voice for young writers who dream of pursuing storytelling at a professional level.

The Northwest Christian Writers Renewal Conference will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Everett, WA.

Have you ever wondered how writers actually get published in Christian magazines and devotionals? Not someday. Not theoretically. But practically.

At our May Writers Renewal Conference, Wendy Lynne Smith will teach: Writing for Christian Publications. Wendy is a homeschool mom, teacher, speaker, and freelance writer whose work appears in Guideposts, Focus on the Family, and the Keys for Kids devotional. Much of her writing happens in the quiet early hours before her household wakes — proof that faithfulness and consistency matter.

In this session, you will learn how to:
•Build a professional writing resume
•Find up-to-date calls for submissions
•Submit strategically to publications like Guideposts, Keys for Kids, and Unlocked
•Strengthen your credibility as a freelance writer.

If you want to gain experience, expand your portfolio, and begin building momentum in Christian publishing, this session offers practical direction you can apply immediately.

Join us May 16, 2026 at Bright City Church in Everett, WA, and take the next step in your writing journey.

Many writers focus on craft but overlook the structure that sustains a writing career. At the 2026 Writers Renewal Conference, Val Barschaw will help writers build sustainable writing businesses with practical insight into Washington State taxes, royalties, and compliance.

In her session The Business of Writing in Washington State, you will learn practical steps for structuring your writing business, handling income responsibly, and understanding state requirements. If you are earning — or planning to earn — income from your writing, this session will give you clarity and confidence on the business side of your calling.

Preparation matters. Structure matters. And wise stewardship strengthens your impact.

Join us May 16, 2026 at Bright City Church in Everett, WA.
