For the past three years, Brian Fu has poured his heart into serving Bothell United Methodist Church, and we've been so grateful for his presence among us. As he continues toward ordination, Brian will step into new roles starting July 1st, serving as pastor at Colby UMC and associate pastor at Gig Harbor UMC.

Brian and Grace, thank you for the faithfulness and care you've brought to Bothell UMC. We send you off with full hearts, cheering you on as you step further into God's calling for your lives!

With love and gratitude,

Fear is really good at one thing: drawing smaller circles: smaller circles of belonging, smaller circles of who counts as a neighbor instead of a threat. In Genesis 21, Sarah convinces herself there isn't enough future for both of her sons. But God hears the one she pushed to the margins.

This week we asked a harder question, not "why am I being pushed out?" but "am I being invited to make room?" Because every time we widen the circle instead of shrinking it, we're living out something bigger than fear.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned that they were free. Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is not freedom fully realized, and that justice requires more than words. It requires action, truth-telling, and a commitment to ensuring that good news reaches everyone.

As followers of Jesus, we believe every person is created in the image of God and worthy of dignity, belonging, and freedom. Juneteenth invites us not only to celebrate liberation, but also to recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of racial justice in our communities and our world.

Today, we give thanks for the resilience, faith, and contributions of Black communities throughout history and in our own lives. And we pray for a future where freedom, justice, and opportunity are shared by all.

As we continue living into our purpose of Becoming Christ in the Community, may we be people who celebrate freedom, confront injustice, and join God’s work of healing and liberation.

We're not supposed to sit on the blessing God has given us. We're called to actively engage it, share it, pass it on. The blessing of God has already gone before us. God is asking us to participate in sharing the blessing.

So the question isn't whether you've been blessed. It's whether you're passing it on.

This week Brian Fu turned the lens around on a story we thought we knew — and found something we keep missing. The blessing was specifically promised to Sarah. And Abraham never told her.

Withholding blessing has consequences. For Sarah. For Hagar. For generations.

The question for us: are we actively passing on what we've been given — or are we letting it stop with us?

Click through Sunday's message. Beyond Fear, Week 3.

From a living room in 1968 to a cathedral in 2021, the church has been moving toward full inclusion for over fifty years. It has never moved fast enough. But it has never stopped moving. This Pride Month, we honor the people who made it move, and commit as a community of faith to continue to listen, promote, and advocate for all q***r people.
