God could have made a world where everyone just obeyed.

Instead, we got Abraham arguing, Moses pleading, Hannah weeping, Mary asking "how?"

Honesty doesn't push God away. It draws us deeper in. Because God doesn't force relationship — God invites it. And that invitation is still open.

For anyone that is entering a new school year this coming fall! Be that as a grade school student, college student, trade school, grad school or a teacher, you are welcome to come and have your backpack blessed! There will be backpack tags available to color and laminate. It will be a fun time to get to know people in the community and prepare for the next season of learning. All are welcome!

Today, we turn to Matthew 16:13-20 and discover who God is on our journey through life.

This week's passage has brought readers difficult questions regarding Jesus for centuries. How could he be so dismissive to a desperate mother? Rude, even. A desperate mother asks for help and gets turned away. It doesn't fit the picture of Jesus we thought we had.

Maybe faith was never meant to be the absence of hard questions. Maybe God is less interested in our certainty than in staying in relationship with us — even when we wrestle.
