A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. - Proverbs 29:23

The right kind of pride isn't necessarily a bad thing. As parents, we want our children to be proud of good grades, a preschool drawing, or a ballet performance. But when pride becomes the driving force, it can lead to our downfall. That's because when it's all about us, we've put ourselves at the center of our lives instead of God. Everything we say or do revolves around ourselves instead of honoring God.

Becoming a Christian requires acknowledging our sin and desperate need for God's grace. A prideful person will struggle with this step because it involves putting God at the center, not self. Humility opens the way to God's grace and our salvation. When we humble ourselves before God. He lifts us up and fills us with His strength.

Father, strengthen me in my battle against pride, Shape in me a humble heart that reflects Your love and grace. AMEN!

Do you really believe that God loves you enough to interrupt the routines of your life? The story of Moses proves that He absolutely does. God caught Moses's attention. God called him by name, and spoke to him in the middle of his work and routine. The fact that God initiates a relationship with people and calls them by name is surely one of the most reassuring realities of biblical revelation. God deals with people in an intensely personal way.

God calls us by name, too. God communicates personally with us. If we somehow forget this, our Christian faith can degenerate into an impersonal, performative, and hollow religion.

The result? A life without the warmth of relationship; where we start to believe in rules and rituals to somehow convince ourselves that God is pleased with us.

One of the essentials for Christian living is to do what benefits others, even when it means letting go of our own preferences. Christ has set us free from all the laws and rituals created to tell us what to do and what not to do. Yet that freedom in Christ must be balanced with a responsibility that we have toward others. We are free in Christ, yet that freedom must always be exercised in ways that build up others - not harm them.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:10 "every man should take heed how he buildeth thereupon."

You surrendered all your rights to Jesus, who calls us to follow Him in grace and love. Jesus said in Luke 9:23 "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." Taking this stance doesn't mean we make ourselves doormats for anyone and everyone to walk on, but we are to be considerate of preferences and desires for the sake of others.

We can't say our actions bring glory to God if they are self-centered and failing to benefit others. On the other hand, those actions that support and encourage others in their own walk toward salvation and their walk with Christ definitely honor Jesus.

Pointing others to Jesus always honors Him!

Our days are filled with decisions influenced by many factors. Our choices can be driven by temptations such as money, success, selfishness, or lust. It can be easy to listen to the wrong voice. David called upon God to be his guide. He as ked God to lead him down the right path.

It's important to recognize what drives us in our decision-making. Are we relying on selfish desires, or are we seeking God's will and guidance? By seeking God and His Word, we can make wise choices. We can choose wisely then at the masterpieces God creates with His faithfulness in our lives. That's beautiful.

Father, guide us today as we make tough decisions. Thank You for always being faithful. Amen!

One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. - Job 21:23

Jog recognized the lies his friends were telling, and that wickedness in this earthly life does not always mean punishment. Wicked people sometimes live happily with wealth and prosperity. Sometimes the most spiritual people live with very little. It can be tempting to make judgments based on the outward happenings of how a person prospers. Job stated that the only One who will judge is God.

God knew Job's heart. God knows our heart. With a pure heart full of Jesus, we are called children of God - even when the material things of this world fade away. Rather than admiring the outward beauty of someone's home or fancy cars, may we show them the love of Christ, so they too can find the true riches in Him.

Father, thank You for knowing our heart and calling us Your children. Help us minister to someone today. Amen!
