Whiteboard Wednesday - Making A Case

In Luke 18, Jesus tells two stories. In the first, he makes it clear that God responds to us not on the merits of our case before him, but simply because he loves us. So often what we are focused on is ourselves -- our good behaviors, our improvements, our actions to glorify God. Jesus points us in another direction, to mercy. Our hope is always in Jesus' love for us, not our love for him, and the wonder to receive is that in Christ we are mercifully loved forever.

Whiteboard Wednesday - Kingdom Living

So often we talk about the kingdom in terms of how to get in. We think life is about building or advancing this kingdom. We focus on what we need to do, what we should accomplish. In Luke 17, Jesus pushes us in another direction. What you bring to the kingdom is your death. The establishing of God's kingdom is done by Jesus. He accomplishes all that is necessary, and promises us that we will be with him forever. We bring our own death, and he promises resurrection and life. We don't see clearly now, but we trust in the incredible work of Jesus Christ for us. He paid it all, and it worked!

Whiteboard Wednesday - Avoiding Traps

The cross is a stumbling block. But why? It is because we can't simply receive something free. We make Christianity about self-improvement, and measure not only works but even repentance, gratitude, and faith. But what if life is simply receiving the gift? What if Jesus really did pay it all, and it worked? So our lives are not about self-maximizing, not about how much improvement, how much faith, even how much gratitude we have, but simply about trusting that Jesus really has us as he promised. We rejoice in the gospel, good news for us now and forever.
