Jesus will forever be different from the world because the world is all about trying to get others to serve it, to help achieve its selfish goals.
Jesus, on the other hand, did not come to get the world to serve Him but to serve others and to give up His life for them. “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28 NAS
Why was Jesus different? Because Jesus served a different Master than the world does: "And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him." John 8:29 NAS
So, the biggest difference between Jesus and the rest of the planet is that He didn’t do what He wanted but rather what His Heavenly Father desired: "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” John 6:38 NAS
Even in the face of ultimate suffering and death on a cross, Jesus took His stand against selfishness. We see this before His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane: And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." Matthew 26:39
So, why all this servant heartedness in Jesus? It was simply in keeping with the true nature of the Creator. God had been serving and suffering over people a long time BEFORE Jesus arrived on earth:
In all their affliction He was afflicted,
And the angel of His presence saved them;
In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them,
And He lifted them and carried them all the days of old. Isaiah 63:9 NAS
‘and in the wilderness where you saw how the LORD your God carried you, just as a man carries his son, in all the way which you have walked until you came to this place.' Deuteronomy 1:31 NAS
Who is like the LORD our God,
Who is enthroned on high,
Who humbles or lowers Himself to behold
The things that are in heaven and in the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
And lifts the needy from the ash heap, Psalm 113:5-7 NAS
And, that is why it is only through the life of Jesus that we can be freed from that to which the world is enslaved and find true life in God. -CWC
