Today’s Dwelling in the Word passage in 2 Samuel 13 is difficult to read. It’s messy, painful, and full of brokenness.

And maybe that’s exactly why we need passages like this. It reminds us what happens when sin, power, and broken relationships are left unchecked. And why we desperately need the restoration only Jesus can bring.

"God’s love is loyal. God’s love is based on God’s character, not on our actions. God's character doesn’t change so God’s love doesn’t change. We can trust in God’s grace. So shrug your shoulders and take a big, gracious deep breath and receive the loyal love of God.

Today we’re looking at one of the biggest failures in the Bible. This is an absolute tragedy and what some might call David’s “fall from grace.” But, can a person actually fall from God’s grace? "

"It is not difficult to understand Joab’s anger.
But what was the problem?
Joab’s problem was not that he became angry.
His problem was that he gave his anger the authority to rule.
The problem was not the anger itself. The problem was that his anger began to govern his judgment, his decisions, and ultimately his actions.
Feeling anger is different from being ruled by anger.
Feeling frustrated is different from being ruled by frustration.
Feeling hatred is different from being ruled by hatred.
God does not want us to be ruled by anger, frustration, or hatred."

Today in Dwelling in the Word, we reflected on Psalm 74, a prayer of honest lament. When grief feels overwhelming, remembering who God has always been can help us trust him today. May we bring our whole hearts to him, confident that the God who has been faithful in the past is faithful still.
