When I arrived at church this morning I found contractors for New Jersey Department of Transportation installing the two signs in the photos. There was NO prior contact/conversation with St Paul regarding the signs. They just appeared. Interesting is that immediately across the street is the median with sufficient space. I’m still waiting for a representative to contact me to discuss the issue.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Some individuals with ASD have a known cause, such as a genetic condition, while in many cases, the exact cause remains unknown. Researchers believe that a combination of factors working together contributes to the development of ASD.

People with ASD may behave, communicate, interact, and learn in ways that differ from others. In many cases, there may be no visible physical characteristics that distinguish someone with ASD. The abilities of individuals on the spectrum vary widely. For example, some individuals may have highly developed verbal and conversational skills, while others may be nonverbal. Similarly, some individuals require significant support in their daily lives, while others are able to live and work independently with little to no assistance.

In an effort to raise awareness within our community, the Beachwood Police Department will outfit officers with blue badges throughout the month of April as a symbol of support for Autism Awareness.

We encourage members of our community to show their support by wearing or displaying symbols of autism awareness, making personal contributions, or organizing initiatives that help raise funds and promote understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Most importantly, we ask everyone to foster an inclusive environment by supporting and respecting the unique needs, preferences, and lifestyles of individuals with autism.
