Paul knew what it was like to suffer. He was all too familiar with persecution and hardship - and with the weight of knowing he once persecuted Christians himself. In those dark valleys, it would have been easy to condemn himself or believe that God couldn’t possibly love or forgive him.
But Paul knew God’s character and His promises. And he refused to let his circumstances or emotions cloud the truth. He was secure in Christ - not because of what he had done, but in spite of it.
