If you have ever walked away from a sermon with questions or wanting to dig deeper into the scriptures, we’re excited to launch a new small group this fall!

The group will meet Monday evenings from 6:30–8:00 PM at Bill and Karen Campbell’s home. Each week, we’ll discuss the previous Sunday’s sermon and explore how it connects with our lives.

We tend to think of righteousness as rule-keeping: being religious, behaving ourselves, doing all the right things. But Jesus describes something far more beautiful.

We want to become people who forgive rather than hold grudges, who love our families well, who are generous, merciful, truthful, and kind. We hunger for a life that is right with God and right with others.

And that is part of the good news of the gospel: God doesn’t only forgive our past; by his Spirit, he gives us power for the future. He is forming us into the people we were created to be. This is the righteousness our hearts long for.

Join us this Sunday for “A Better Righteousness” — Matthew 5:17–20. We’ll see you at 10:30!

The gospel in a verse 🤍

What is the gospel?

We are all sinners, separated from God and his holiness. Jesus, God’s only son who lived a sinless life, took our punishment of sin (death) on himself. He was crucified and died for us. He absorbed God’s wrath on the cross in our place, and by doing so, removed our guilt and shame. He rose three days later, conquering death itself.

This is the good news! God redeemed us! We are His! We belong to Him. And we can have everlasting joy in him!

If you missed it on Sunday, John Beller, one of our church leaders, preached on Matthew 5: 13-16. “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

During this second week of our new sermon series, The Upside-down Kingdom, John invited us to hear and consider and remember Jesus’ words: You are salt, you are light, and you are free.

A big thank you to Megan Baxter for speaking at The Redeemer House yesterday about Caring Well: Making Room for One Another’s Wounds.

She answered questions and taught what it would look like for a church community to become more trauma-informed and how we can receive and respond to others.

We may not know the whole story of someone’s trauma and wounds, but we can learn how to respond by slowing down, listening, and being present with them, and by being a place where they feel safe, supported, and seen.
