Unbelievers cannot understand the things of God….
People without the Holy Spirit cannot receive the truth of God‘s Word without the intervention of the Spirit They believe spiritual truth to be foolishness. But the power of the Holy Spirit enables those He indwells to understand the mysteries of God. God empowers a Spirit-filled person to make sound judgments. Discernment is a spiritual gift (1 Cor 12:10; 1 John 4:1). Since there is a spiritual world, God gives wisdom to judge whether something is from Him or not. Paul was not saying that Christians are above criticism, nor was he saying that some Christians should be the judge of everyone’s lives. Rather, Paul was contrasting the divine wisdom Christians have and the lack of wisdom of those who do not believe. This is a preview of his teaching in (1 Corinthians 6) to not sue each other and end up in front of an unsaved judge. First Corinthians 2:16 begins with another quote from Isaiah. “Who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him?”Of course, the answer to that question is no one. No person, angel, or creature in heaven or on earth can discern the Lord’s thoughts or teach Him He is too powerful for that! But He has given us a wonderful gift. We have the mind of Christ.
“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”
