Many people walk through life feeling like they do not matter, as if their struggles define them or God's promises belong to someone else. The story of Timothy Gray, a man who died homeless under a Wyoming overpass while standing to inherit millions, serves as a sobering mirror. How many of us are living far beneath what God has already made available to us? Scripture, particularly the book of Ephesians, paints a breathtaking picture of an identity rooted not in our circumstances but in what God has already done for those who belong to Him. We are chosen, adopted, redeemed, and filled with His Spirit. These are not future possibilities. They are present realities.
Ephesians makes clear that the transformation in our lives is not our own doing. We were dead in sin, and God made us alive. He raised us up. He seated us in heavenly places. The grace that saves us is a gift, not a reward for effort. We are His workmanship, shaped by His hands for purposes He prepared long before we arrived. That truth should be both humbling and deeply freeing. It means we do not have to carry the weight of our own transformation alone. The Holy Spirit, the Helper Jesus promised before He left, is available to every person in Christ.
The call is to stop living under the overpass and start standing on the promises of God. Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than we have even thought to ask for. The fruits of the Spirit, including love, peace, and joy, are available right now, not someday. When we claim our inheritance and let less of ourselves and more of Him show through, the people around us will notice. Our lives become a testimony to a God who is actively at work in those who trust Him.
