We packed in a lot of excitement between 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. It was good to see the Big Flats and Cortland folks, and also to visit with Rev. Darcey after her summer break. Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the picnic, the company, and the lovely weather before the wind brought in ominous dark clouds that turned into a brief rainstorm. Hey, the kid caught the frisbee.

Each year, our UU kids enjoy coming together for a multi-night adventure. We just spent four nights in cabins at Letchworth State Park, enjoying hiking, swimming and campfires.

Creativity abounds when there is no cell service. The younger kids came up with a snack menu that evolved into “selling” snacks for free around the cabin area. They earned $10 in tips.

We explored the UU principle of interconnected web through the practice of forest bathing. At the Council Grounds in the park, we learned about the history and traditions of the Iroquois Nations and we visited the Seneca Iroquois National Museum. We spent a sunny day at Six Flags Darien Lake.

The whole trip was a wonderful combination of learning, adventure, and connections.

We served 65 meals today. The diners raved about our cooking and thanked us for hosting this month’s community meal. We can finally find our way around the Athens United Methodist Church kitchen. Cooking and setting up tables and chairs for today’s free community meal we are hosting at the Athens United Methodist Church, 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.. please come out to socialize and enjoy a meal with local folks.
