Each Thursday morning at Respite the dining room is filled with fruit, pastries, and coloring pages. Another holy excuse to gather around the table together and get to know one another.

One of the many sweet things about being at Haywood St is the chance to celebrate birthdays. Today we celebrated Ava. She wore a special dress for the day which was a collaborative design created by folks from the Haywood Street Art Room: Ava’s painting, Charlie’s embroidery, and Lotus’ sewing skills which brought together material from three dresses to complete Ava’s vision. If you’re ever at Haywood on your birthday, let us know so we can celebrate your fabulousness!

Through months of planning and construction, we dreamed of the sunset views that Lady Gloria Ridge residents would have of the Blue Ridge mountains from their balconies. To receive photos like this one from people who now call this community home is a dream come true.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Haywood Street congregant, Susan Dinzole. We remember Susan as exuberant joy seeker and truth teller - always prepared to remind those around her of their belovedness - and to advocate for friends at the back of the line. For many years she faithfully joined us at the Downtown Welcome Table and in the sanctuary for worship until her health prevented her from attending regularly. We will miss her smile, her humor & candor, and all the ways she sought connection with fellow sojourners.
