From Pastor Seth’s sermon this week:
“While money can certainly buy survival and comfort, of which we are each equally deserving, it cannot buy love — for love is not a transaction or a mutual fund but a willingness to hold and be held in mutual vulnerability, to see and be seen not as some objectified means to some end but as the very reflection of Divinity.
There are no billionaires in the Kingdom of God — for it is community, not commodity, by which Love reigns.” Link to full sermon: https://haywoodstreet.org/sermon-by-pastor-seth-september-2-2026/

We had such an incredible day at the Downtown Welcome Table with Chai Pani. They cooked and served a beautiful meal and were such a joy to hang out with. They’ve been showing up for Haywood St. for many years in a multitude of ways. Thanks also to everyone who joined us at the table in the name of love and connection.

P.S. We see you in the background of that last image Patton Allen Real Estate 🤩

Yesterday Respite received a very special delivery from Blooms of Kindness. They have been brightening our days with bouquets for many months. This week they received flowers that were a part of the tribute to Dolly Parton at the Gus Cutty mural at Beauty Parade Salon to share with health care facilities throughout the community. Ripples of love, beauty, and kindness echo on and on and on.

We are so grateful and excited to share that Haywood Street Congregation has received a gift of $100,000 for Respite construction from Biltmore United Methodist Church and Biltmore Village Cooperative Parish! This is their second significant contribution for Respite expansion. Their generosity is helping to fulfill the vision of providing space for more friends as they rest and recover during a health crisis. In addition to this gift, they regularly bring an evening meal to Respite, gather at the table, and get to know folks in the community. We are so grateful for their partnership and all the ways they show up to share God’s love. Image shown: Pastor Brian with Rev. Lucy Robbins of Biltmore Village Cooperative Parish.

Welcome, Sheneika!

Welcome, Sheneika!

We are excited to share that Sheneika S. has been named Coordinator of Resident Life at Lady Gloria. If the opposite of housing is estrangement, not homelessness, the primary role of the Coordinator of Resident Life is to interrupt isolation through relationship. In this position, Sheneika will be deepening fellowship individually and community-wide, engaging in person-centered social work, and serving as a steward of life together.

Welcome, Sheneika!

Respite Hospitality Coordinators met for a meal and training today. Since they work different shifts, it was a real treat for them to all be in the same space together. We are grateful for the heart and soul they bring to their work of caring for our friends as they heal.
