On July 2, 1900 Good Hope Lutheran Church was organized by a group of residents of the Arlington area who traced their heritage back to travelers on a shipwrecked boat from Germany. Over the years, this church has been a shelter of God’s grace and a beacon of God’s hope. Sunday after Sunday the doors of Good Hope have been open to receive God’s people, and gather in their prayers and praise. This

community of Christ has celebrated the joys of births, baptisms, weddings, and holidays. It has also been the blanket of God’s embrace during times of sorrow, death, trouble and pain. In its first few years Good Hope numbered 100 people, but today over 700 people share the mutual commitment of following the Lord. Although it began as a congregation of German speaking Christians, Good Hope now is home to the entire cross-section of backgrounds and traditions that make up this rural community. Although few are full time farmers, the ebb and flow of rural life still sets the pace for the days and seasons. Findlay, a town of 35,000, provides jobs and opportunities for the majority of Good Hope’s members. In recent years, Good Hope has reached far beyond the streets and neighborhoods of Arlington to shine the hope and peace of Christ. Over 5,500 quilts have been sewn by the women of Good Hope and sent to needy people all over the world. An Indian reservation in South Dakota was the recipient of the labor of many members. A Vietnamese family found refuge from the war and a place to make a new life among Good Hope. Supplies, clothing, and birthday cards have regularly been sent to a home for troubled youth, and when disasters happen anywhere in the world, Good Hope has always been quick to respond with funds to help. We have recently completed an addition and renovation project that we hope will enable us to better serve our members and our community. With 100 years behind us, we step forward in faith, not knowing where we are going, but only that the Lord’s hand will lead us and his love support us.

Thank you to all the families who joined us for worship this morning and stayed afterward to celebrate an amazing week of Vacation Bible School with a meal in Fellowship Hall. We are grateful for the wonderful fellowship and support that made this week so special.

A special thank-you goes to Main Street Eats for supplying the ice cream. It was the perfect finishing touch to our dessert table and a treat enjoyed by all!

What a Week!🏕️

Thank you one and all for a tremendous week of Bible School!

We really appreciate parents getting their children here every day, thanks so much for doing that! And please feel welcome to come this Sunday at 10 am, when the children will be singing some of their songs and we'll be reviewing a week of Bible learning together. We hope to see all children on Sunday, with their families too!

Today the story was Easter, and especially what happened later in the day on that first Easter Sunday, when Jesus walked with two of His disciples, on the road to Emmaus. (This story is found in Luke's Gospel, btw, which would be a good read this afternoon!)
Jesus walks with you every day too. He has called you to be trailblazer of faith as well, and today's the day to get started.
God be with you all!

Ok, It’s Thursday
and on Thursday, even the most dedicated of Bible School volunteers is starting to get a little bit tired!
We’re only human. We ALL get tired. Even the first disciples of Jesus got worn out now and then. But God loves us, and is always with us. For the sake of His Son Jesus, God forgives us when we stumble, He picks us up when we fall, and He continues to lead us along the path. Thanks be to God for His great love! Thanks be to God both for the journey, and for the destination.

Today we read in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 4, how Jesus called His first disciples. The Gospel of Matthew contains may stories you’ll no doubt recognize; why not sit
down and read it today?

See you tomorrow, and Sunday too, when we celebrate a week of Bible School in our 10 am worship.

Our attendance today btw was 148. Wow!

Hump Day! 🏕️

We are mid-way through our week of Bible School, and still going strong. A total of 150 students were in attendance today!

We of course have two more days of Bible School, AND DON’T FORGET! Students and families are all welcome in worship at Good Hope this Sunday, June 14th. Among other things, we’ll be singing some of our Bible School songs.

Today we learned about Joshua, whose story is told in the book that bears his name. Joshua and the people were also “trailblazers of faith.” They followed God across the Jordan River and into the Promised Land, then trusted even more in Him when they were told to parade around the city of Jericho. And God was always there for them, as God is always there for us.

Another Great Day in Bible School! 🏕️

This morning we welcomed 152 students, and when you add in all the youth and adult helpers, we had over 200 people here at Vacation Bible School! Thank you and thanks be to God.

We are talking about “Trailblazers of Faith” in the Bible, people who followed where God led, just like we follow God today. And if you’re talking about following God in Bible times, then you just have to talk about Moses and the people in the book of Exodus! Led by Moses, the people followed God for 40 years through the wilderness, to the joy and freedom of the Promised Land.
You can read about Moses and the people leaving Egypt in the book of Exodus, beginning in chapter 1. Many other stories about their time in the wilderness can also be found in the book of Numbers.
