WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A DISCIPLE OF JESUS. Pastor Dan attempts to answer this burning question today. Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is not an upgraded version of being a Christian. When we look at Luke 9 we see Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. They were Disciples. None of us are given permission to fall back on “but they were Apostles and I’m not”. The 12 at this time were not Apostles yet. They were followers who were listening, watching, learning what that meant. They were disciples.
We are disciples of Jesus. We are given power and authority: To heal, Trample on the enemy, Overcome.

Two take aways from this final chapter of Leviticus
1. The Joy of Generosity
Leviticus 27 encourages generosity in giving to God. This reflects the joy that comes from being generous. Acts 20:35 reminds us, "In everything, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus Himself: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" Generosity enriches our lives and blesses others.

2. The Assurance of God’s Faithfulness
Finally, Leviticus 27 reassures us of God’s faithfulness in honoring our commitments to Him. When we dedicate something to God, He is faithful to receive it and bless us in return. Lamentations 3:22-23 beautifully captures this: "Because of the LORD’s loving devotion we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!" Trusting in God’s faithfulness gives us confidence in our spiritual journey.

May we take to heart the guidance from Leviticus coupled with the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Leviticus Chapter 26 serves as a climactic conclusion to the Holiness Code, structured like an ancient Near Eastern treaty where God lays out the ultimate consequences of keeping or breaking His covenant. The chapter revolves around a stark contrast: blessings for obedience, escalating curses for disobedience, and the ultimate promise of restoration upon repentance.

On the practical application for today a couple of thoughts:
1. Confession and humility open the door to restoration. No failure is final when repentance is genuine!

2. God keeps His promises across generations; He is just and merciful, exactly as He declared in Leviticus 26.

3. The Blessings of Obedience for the believer is an expected outcome in following Jesus Christ. Not one person is perfect, but it is the Sacrifice of Jesus who has made atonement for all our sins! Hallelujah.

Leviticus Chapter 25 of 27
Leviticus chapter 25 details the divine laws of the Sabbath Year and the Year of Jubilee. It commands that every seventh year the land must rest from farming, and every fiftieth year (the Jubilee) ancestral lands must be returned, debts reset, and Hebrew slaves freed. It is questionable if Israel followed the prescribed directions of the Year of Jubilee. Yet, this chapter gives us some insights we can consider today.

1. Embrace the Sabbath Year: A Time for Rest and Renewal

Leviticus 25 introduces the concept of the Sabbath year, a time when the land itself is given a rest. This principle reminds us of the importance of rest and renewal in our own lives. Just as the land benefits from a break, so do we. "But in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of complete rest for the land, a Sabbath to the LORD" (Leviticus 25:4). Taking time to pause and reflect can rejuvenate our spirits and deepen our relationship with God.

2. The Call to Compassion

Leviticus 25 encourages compassion towards those who fall into poverty. "If your brother becomes impoverished and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would a foreigner or stranger" (Leviticus 25:35). The temptation not to enable someone's misfortune can be why believers today withhold assistance from the person who needs compassion demonstrated! This lesson challenges us to extend kindness and support to those in need, reflecting God's heart for the vulnerable.

There are quite a few take aways from this chapter to be applied to our understanding today. One life application to consider is:

The Bread of Presence describes the preparation of the Bread of Presence, which was to be set before the Lord regularly. This bread signifies God's provision and His desire for fellowship with His people. "Put the bread on the table before the LORD regularly" (Leviticus 24:8). Echo's of the Lord's Prayer is heard when Jesus said, "...give us this day our daily bread". In our lives, we are invited to partake in the spiritual nourishment that comes from a relationship with God, trusting in His provision and seeking His presence daily.

Pastor Dan is revealing us to ourselves today and calling us out to “Agree with God, and be at peace; thereby good will come to you.” Let’s be aware of the Power of Agreement, recognizing that what you “AMEN” is what you allow! What you ACCEPT; What you REPEAT; What you REHEARSE; What you FEED – builds the battle. Are you agreeing and accepting the enemies lies and accusations thus building a battle against you? Or are you agreeing with God, His word, His power at work in you and thus building the battle where You are the Overcomer?

Embrace the Rhythm of Rest

Leviticus 23 introduces us to the Sabbath, a day of complete rest. In our fast-paced world, it's easy to overlook the importance of rest. Yet, God commands us to pause and rejuvenate. "For six days work may be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of complete rest, a sacred assembly" (Leviticus 23:3). Embracing this rhythm not only honors God but also refreshes our spirit and body, allowing us to serve Him more effectively.

The sabbath day of rest remains 1 of the 10 Commandments. All of the 10 Commandments remain for us to follow. We are not to seek how to squirm out of following any of the 10 commandments, simply obey the 10 Commandments. We need to pay attention to the command of the Sabbath Day rest. Why, we have even named a Mountain "Rush more". Slow down on the Sabbath and rest more!
