Small Group Bible Study & Worship is more than another church event.

It’s a space to slow down.
Open the Word.
Ask questions.
Build relationships.
Worship together.
And strengthen your faith for REAL LIFE.

No matter where you are in your walk with God, there’s room for you.
You don’t have to know every scripture.
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
And you definitely don’t have to come alone.

Come as you are.
Bring your Bible.
Bring your questions.
Bring a friend.
And let’s grow together.

Today's Devotion:

The Believer’s Highest Honor

The greatest responsibility for us as believers is to faithfully serve the Lord.

God’s Word describes believers as “ambassadors” (2 Corinthians 5:20), “soldiers” (2 Timothy 2:3), and “saints” (Ephesians 2:19). But perhaps the highest honor we can receive is to be called servants of the Most High God. From the world’s perspective, those who die to self in order to follow the Lord may stand in last place—in reality, however, they are first in His kingdom. (See Matthew 20:16.)

God places us in situations, vocations, and neighborhoods where we can have an impact for Christ. Think about the stay-at-home mom who raises godly children or a bedridden man who prays regularly for his church family. Though neither responsibility involves worldly power or recognition, both serve the Lord, and He is pleased by such faithfulness.

There are no unimportant positions in the kingdom of God. The type of service may change with seasons of life, but we’re always in service for Him. To accomplish His purposes, the Lord uses whatever time, talent, and treasure we have.

Service to the Lord is not about what we do but rather how well we do all that He has given us to accomplish (1 Peter 4:10). A good servant shares both Jesus Christ’s attitude of humility and His motivation to reach people with the love of God.

Refocusing on Jesus

Fixing our eyes on Jesus leads us on the path to peace, joy, and contentment.

Related Scripture

John 15:4-6

Hebrews 12:1

Today’s passage urges us to stay connected to Jesus. The image of Him as the vine and believers as the branches helps us understand that apart from Him, we can do nothing. It is possible to receive His salvation yet still act out of the flesh, separated from His protection, strength, and power. All believers find their focus wandering at times, but some have strayed so far that it’s hard to see their way back.

If you discover your heart is loyal to something besides Christ, it’s vital to acknowledge that this has happened. Repent of whichever attitudes and activities are drawing you away, and choose to focus on Him instead.

Once the distraction is gone, refocus on Jesus by reading the Word, praying, learning from biblical messages, and spending time with godly friends who will encourage you. After living outside of God’s best for a while, it can be hard to discipline yourself to function as the Lord desires. But remember that those who abide in God will bear much fruit (John 15:5).

Hebrews 12:1 urges us to “lay aside every encumbrance” so we can run with endurance the race set before us. Following His plan in His strength is the way to peace, joy, and contentment in life.

No Trial Is Beyond God’s Help

Matthew 26:69-74

Scripture is filled with many wonderful promises from the Lord, but we often struggle to accept them as true in our own life. God wants us to believe that He’s willing and able to do what He has said He will accomplish.

God assures us we don’t have to give in to sin (1 Corinthians 10:13). Jesus experienced this truth when the Holy Spirit led Him into the wilderness for an encounter with Satan (Matt. 4:1-11). Our Savior successfully resisted the Devil’s enticements by recalling who the Father is and what He had promised.

The world we live in has a lot of traps, and they can be hard to detect. For example, Peter had a conversation with a servant girl and ended up denying that he knew Jesus Christ (Matthew 26:69-74). Like the disciple, we sometimes have trouble recognizing a situation’s potential danger, but our heavenly Father understands what is involved—and He knows just how we should respond.

When you face temptation or encounter an unexpected difficulty, the approach needs to be the same. Turn your attention to the Lord, and keep it there until your mind is filled with the knowledge of Him. Allow the Scriptures to guide your prayers, and stand firm until the promised help comes.

Our God Is Able

Jesus is our greatest example of unwavering trust in the Father through every circumstance.

Hebrews 7:25

Romans 16:25

Jesus knew what it meant to have limited financial resources, to have those closest to Him question His actions, and to be rejected by those He sought to serve (Matthew 8:20; Mark 3:21; John 6:66-67). Yet in spite of such opposition, He didn’t let circumstances affect His trust in the Father.

We’re called to follow Jesus’ example by believing that God is able to do what He’s promised. For instance, Hebrews 7:25 assures salvation for whoever comes to God through Jesus. The Father will pardon everybody who has genuine faith in His Son and will make each one a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). No matter what trouble a person may have caused, the Lord invites him or her to draw near in faith and receive the gift of everlasting life. God also promises to establish in truth everyone who trusts in Him (Romans 16:25). Through His Word and Spirit, we start to see things as our Father does, which helps us understand what pleases Him.

By believing that God keeps His promises, we grow stronger in our faith and gain peace. Hardships that would once have thrown us off course lose their power. Hope replaces discouragement, and trust overcomes doubt. Next time trouble comes, focus on God’s promises and ability to care for you.
