Sunday Recap | If God is loving, then why do good people go to hell?
One of the biggest misunderstandings we can have about God’s love is thinking that being a good person is enough. But the truth is, we all have a sin problem that we cannot fix by simply trying harder or comparing ourselves to someone worse than us.
God’s holiness shows us the weight of our sin, but the cross shows us the depth of His love. He didn’t leave us without a way to be saved. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
God is loving, patient, and long-suffering. His desire is for people to come to repentance, but His patience should never be mistaken for an endless amount of time to respond. We aren’t promised tomorrow, and we shouldn’t take His grace for granted.
The question isn’t whether God loves us. The cross has already demonstrated that He does. The question is what we will do with the salvation He has offered through Jesus.
We aren’t saved by being good enough. We are saved by the grace of God through Jesus Christ.
Today is the day of salvation.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
John 3:16-18
