Andover SDA Church sponsored a NATIONAL NIGHT 2 UNITE event on the campus of AACS on August 4th. Music, provided by a local DJ with a Christian playlist, a large Bouncy-House and the aroma of food drew an estimated 50 neighborhood residents to check out activities going on at the school. The Anoka Police Department and Anoka/Champlin Fire Department sent representatives and gave away wrist bands, sticker badges and frozen treats.
Neighbors were invited to sign up to receive email notices of upcoming church and school events. Other church members and friends provided Health and Wellness information and blood pressure checks, a Massage Station, and Pathfinder-sponsored games. Free food including two varieties of Sloppy-Joes got rave reviews.
The playground and shady picnic tables on campus are a perfect location to connect with the community. The Andover church sponsored a series of Summer Neighborhood Picnics at AACS featuring free grilled food - with the final picnic to be held August 22nd at 1:30 PM. The paved basketball court at AACS proved to be popular all summer, with kids living in nearby apartment buildings requesting permission to play on the court when school or church workers are present. The Andover church is aware of an on-going need for English language classes and is exploring options to provide accessible classes.
