“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:17-20 ESV
This is an amazing passage, but for this Wordly Wisdom, I want to focus on the concept of reconciliation. Reconciliation is about restoring a relationship that has been broken. Sin separated us from God, but God took the first step toward us. Through Jesus Christ, He made a way for us to be forgiven, restored, and brought back into fellowship with Him. Paul reminds us that when we are “in Christ,” we are a new creation. Our past no longer has to define us. God doesn’t simply forgive us and leave us where we were. He gives us a new identity and a new purpose.
And that purpose is powerful: we become ambassadors for Christ. Having experienced reconciliation with God, we are called to help others find that same reconciliation. Our words, actions, forgiveness, and reconciliation should point people toward Jesus.

Wordly Wisdom from Phil Manly

Scripture: Genesis 50:15-21

Joseph’s brothers feared that after their father died, Joseph would finally take revenge for the wrong they had done to him. Instead, Joseph responded with grace, saying, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).

What a powerful reminder that God can redeem even our deepest hurts. Faith trusts that God is working for our good, even when we cannot see it. Forgiveness releases our pain into God’s hands and allows His peace to fill our hearts.
This week, choose faith over fear and forgiveness over resentment. The same God who brought good from Joseph’s suffering is still at work in your story today.

Prayer: Lord, help us trust Your plan, forgive as You have forgiven us, and walk in the peace that comes from knowing You are working all things for good, in Jesus’ name amen.

Responding to an Attack
We are under attack! Our enemy has shut down all information and operational systems of the largest employer in Anderson County, SC who also happens to be the primary healthcare provider for the county and larger region. Everything about this is evil. While specific ransom demands are not yet reported, the threat of disclosure of private, very personal information has been published. This evil deed has already cost millions of dollars and has the potential to cost life and limb of patients of AnMed. How should we as a Christian community respond to such an attack?
First, we must trust God and not be afraid. Second, we must intercede for everyone affected by this attack:
Pray for the sick to be healed.
Pray for the wisdom and strength of the staff working to restore systems.
Pray for the endurance of medical staff tirelessly working to care for patients.
Pray for the leadership team for wisdom and discernment in making decisions.
Pray for repentance by the evil doers that they return what they have taken and live for the glory of God.
Pray that God will redeem this evil for good. “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.” Gen. 50:20
In times like these it is our duty and privilege to pray earnestly to our Lord.

Three Enemies
Think about how futile it would be if someone attacked you, and instead of confronting the attacker, you turned and fought someone else. The mistake seems obvious, yet it happens every day. Families divide, friendships fracture, and churches struggle because people are fighting one another while ignoring the real enemy.

Scripture identifies three enemies every believer faces: the world, the flesh, and the devil. Thankfully, God has not left us in the dark. Through His Word, He reveals our enemies and gives us heavenly wisdom for the battle.

The world is not your friend. It offers only the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-17). Its wisdom is earthly, sensual, and demonic (James 3:15). It tells you to follow your heart, pursue yourself, and satisfy your desires. God says otherwise. Love not the world, but love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30).

The flesh is no ally either. From the moment Cain had a brother, the flesh revealed its true nature. Outside of Christ, mankind knows only conflict, jealousy, violence, and death. Scripture declares, "I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing" (Romans 7:18). Yet there is hope. "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16). The Holy Spirit leads us away from destruction and into life and peace.

And the devil is your enemy. He prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). His purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Filled with hatred for God and knowing his time is short, he wages war against all who belong to Christ. Therefore, submit yourself completely to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).

Never forget who the real enemies are. Your spouse is not the enemy. Your neighbor is not the enemy. Your brother or sister in Christ is not the enemy. The world, the flesh, and the devil are. Fight the right battle with the right weapons—the truth of God's Word, the power of His Spirit, and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. Victory belongs to those who stand with Him.

Deuteronomy 3:18 (NIV)� "At that time I commanded you: 'The Lord your God has given you this land to take possession of it. But all your able-bodied men, armed for battle, must cross over ahead of the other Israelites.'"
God had already given these tribes their land, but they still had a job to do. Instead of settling into comfort, they were called to help their brothers receive their inheritance too. It's a good reminder that God's blessings aren't just for our comfort, but they're also for our calling. Sometimes the next step after receiving a blessing isn't relaxing. Instead, oftentimes it's serving someone else. Ask yourself today, "Who can I help cross into their blessing?"Just because you've reached your destination doesn't mean God's canceled your assignment. So be blessed but be prepared for the calling.

Since people are made in the image of God and God made the world by speaking it into existence, there is power in our words. You can encourage a person with your words. You can preach the Good News of the Gospel. With your words, you can curse, or you can bless. Since the Bible is the word of God, there’s much power when His written word is spoken. Actually, it’s beneficial to read the Bible out loud. When you do, you encourage yourself. Romans 10:17 says, "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the faith of God."

Living the New Life in Christ

To put on the new self means to live out the new identity that Christ has given you. When you trust in Jesus, you are no longer defined by your old sinful nature, habits, or failures. God begins transforming you to reflect Christ's character.

The key to transformation and renewal is knowing that it is God who transforms us, not works of reading more scripture or other actions. Our acts of obedience to Christ result in us being freed from the flesh. As we press into Him, He transforms us to be more like Him.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. Isaiah 30:15-18
15 For thus the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said,

“In repentance and rest you will be saved,
In quietness and trust is your strength.”
But you were not willing,
16 And you said, “No, for we will flee on horses,”
Therefore you shall flee!
“And we will ride on swift horses,”
Therefore those who pursue you shall be swift.
17 One thousand will flee at the threat of one man;
You will flee at the threat of five,
Until you are left as a flag on a mountain top
And as a signal on a hill.

18 Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you,
And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
How blessed are all those who long for Him.

Judah, the Southern Kingdom had made an alliance with Egypt in order to be delivered from their enemies (Babylon). Rather than calling out to God, they called on Egypt. Rather than turning from their sin, they turned further to it. Rather than trust the Holy One, they trusted the nations. Rather than trust the Lord of Hosts, they trusted in military might they could see. Trying to turn from their enemy, they turned to their enemy.
So God judged them by giving them over to that which they trusted. They trusted in military might, so God gave them over to military might. They trusted in the nations, so God gave them over to the nations.

It shouldn’t take that much imagination to realize that we do the same thing. We continue to trust in things that we can see or measure, rather than trusting in the Lord. We refuse to repent to be blessed and we instead look for easy ways out. We can seek safety in that which is not actually safe. We can seek security in that which is not secure. In essence, we do not repent and trust the Lord.

But the Lord longs to be gracious to you! He waits to have compassion on you! It is still not too late for you to repent, and trust in the Lord. Repent now! If you trust in things that are not the Lord, you will get things that are not of the Lord. If you long for the Lord, if you repent and trust in Him, He will bless you. He will save you and be your strength against any enemy.
