Now the holidays are over and this week at Hebrew club we began exploring the topic of this year’s curriculum, “Bereishis – Story of our Lives”.
Bereishis is the first book of the Torah, the greatest gift we received from Hashem. The Torah contains the words of Hashem Himself, and it is the guidebook that instructs us on how to live our lives in the most meaningful and best way possible.
The Torah’s words were printed in a five volume set known as the Chumash. The five books of the Chumash contain the stories of our Jewish family, and all of the 613 Mitzvot.
In addition to the Chumash, there are also many Torah books written by great Torah scholars and Rabbis that explain the Torah’s stories and mitzvot, and all of their special lessons. These Torah books are written in many different languages, so everyone can learn Torah!
We are so fortunate that Torah learning is so available and accessible to us nowadays. There are even multiple apps, websites, Torah books and more that give us the opportunity to connect to Hashem by studying His Torah anytime, anywhere!
This year, we are excited to be learning the Torah from the very beginning, from the first book of the Torah, the book of Bereishis. It’s filled with the incredible stories of our very first Jewish mothers and fathers, the strong roots of our Jewish family.
We created a gorgeous Torah library filled with different treats which are connected to the theme of each book of the Torah and had a fun learning experience searching for each book of the Torah with special activities, teaching us the values of our Jewish tradition.
