I have long felt indifferent about New Year Resolutions. I always figured that if there was something in my life I needed to address, I would do it during Lent, when I would make commitments to pray more, do more for my community, and evaluate how God is calling me to be a better person. However, this year, for the first time in a long time, I actually do have a resolution around healthier habits, so it has a more secular than religious focus, although I do believe that I am cooperating with God by paying attention to my health! As a result, I have been thinking about the ways that starting one new habit makes other new habits possible. There is something about a 30-Day Challenge, for example, that helps us to focus on other areas of our life that also need to be addressed. As a result, I have felt a breath of fresh air with this New Year, as I have recognized that there are possibilities I am only just now beginning to recognize.
