"Reading the Bible is different from reading a book to pass a test, learn a hobby or be entertained. Yes, we read and memorize Holy Scripture to learn more. But we also sink our teeth into God’s Word to become more — to love more and to follow Jesus more and more. Psalm 119:11 puts it this way: 'I have stored up Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.' God’s plan is for our time in His Word to bring about our transformation and sanctification. We memorize biblical passages so we may be empowered to say 'yes' to Jesus and 'no' to Satan and his soul-destroying lies." Link in comments.

The beheading of St. John the Baptist, remembered on Aug. 29, is one of the greatest examples of the striking incongruity between the eternal triumph of Jesus and the seeming triumph of the devil. ... While uncomfortable to contemplate, St. John the Baptist’s death is a reminder that our riches are not to be found here on earth. There are much greater treasures awaiting us with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
