West Barre Church: Sunday Service and Busy Weeks Ahead
Members and friends gathered at West Barre Church Sunday morning for worship and fellowship. Danny Shuler provided the morning Scripture reading, and Lanor Markle shared the Children's Message. Hugh Dudley led the choir and Naomi Calwell played organ and piano.
Sunday's message continued in Mark 8, with the question Jesus asked His disciples,"Who do you say I am?" One reminder from the message was that we often face the same test more than once. Sometimes it takes five, six, or even ten tries before we learn to trust Him fully. We were encouraged to write down the ways God has been faithful in our lives so that when the next challenge comes, we can look back and remember He brought us through before. The message is available to view on our Youtube channel.
The congregation also celebrated the conclusion of the October Shoebox Mission collection. Through the generosity of the congregation and money raised through the Craft Show/Basket Raffle and other events, a wonderful amount was collected for this year's shoeboxes. Packing will take place after the Sunday service on November 8, with a potluck lunch and plenty of helping hands needed.
November's mission will support the local volunteer veterans transportation service, which helps veterans get to appointments. The church's turkey and ham drive for Community Action also begins in November, with donations of turkeys, hams or monetary gifts welcome.
Election Day Turkey Dinner Returns November 3
One of West Barre Church's familiar fall traditions is almost here! Preparations are beginning for the Election Day Turkey Dinner on Tuesday, November 3, with volunteers working together over several days to prepare the meal.
This year's dinner will be drive-thru and pre-sale only, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. With 450 tickets available, there is plenty to do before the first dinner leaves the kitchen. Volunteers will begin preparing the turkeys after church on Sunday, continue Monday evening with potatoes and other sides, and return Tuesday afternoon to get everything ready for the big drive-thru event!
The turkey dinner has long been one of those occasions when many hands come together at West Barre Church. We'll share a little more of the dinner's history as we look back through the church records and memories of those who have helped through the years.
Youth Group has some fun planned as well, with a harvest party on October 28 featuring costumes, contests and prizes. Members were also reminded to bring the Bible journals they have been working on. The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 6 - 7 pm with PIZZA provided!
West Barre Church also offers a Worship and Praise Service on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., providing a special opportunity during the week to gather for worship.
There is always something coming up at West Barre Church! Be sure to check our website and Google Calendar for worship services, Youth Group, mission projects, special events and other church activities.
And through the busy weeks and the quiet ones, we continue to thank the Lord for His faithfulness and for the opportunities He gives us to worship, serve and care for our community together.
