Eighty two years ago on this day 160,000 ground troops, 5,000 ships and 15,000 aircraft began the assault on the beaches of Normandy France known as Operation Overlord. At the end of the assault there were 10,000 Allied casualties. Eleven months later, Germany, the predominate leader of the Axis powers unconditionally surrendered.
The allegory of this historical fact is lifted up in our Gospel text from Matthew chapter seven verses twenty four through twenty nine which we will explore at tomorrow's Celebration of Worship with the Sacrament of Holy Communion beginning at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA. Everyone is welcome at our table of Communion. Following our Celebration everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship, please don't "roll your eyes" at our refreshments that will include fresh ground and fresh brewed BRC.
Safe travels in all of your journeys my friends,
Pastor Steve

The very experience of being a part of something new is to some very exciting and to others the comment, "Well, we have never done it that way." will be their disclaimer that everything should remain the same. This is summed up in a quote that many motivational speakers use, "Innovate or evaporate".
Tomorrow we will Celebrate Worship beginning at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA as we recognize the day of Pentecost, Acts chapter two verses one through twenty one, as the day that the Holy Spirit indwelled thousands of believers in the city of Jerusalem and the Christian Church came into existence. Since that time Christianity has gone through many phases of innovation so that it wouldn't evaporate. In your Community of Faith I pray that you will be an innovator and not an evaporator.
Everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship with a Pentecost theme that will include fresh ground and fresh brewed BRC. To Celebrate Pentecost, if you are able, wear something red.
Safe travels on all of your journeys my friends,
Pastor Steve

Much needed rain is forecast for our area of this third rock from the sun. For once I hope that the forecasters are more than their usual fifty percent, or less, accuracy. Iowa grows corn and corn grows Iowa.
Unlike a weather forecast, our Gospel text for tomorrow's Celebration of Worship beginning at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA will center on John chapter seventeen verses one through eleven and the perfect accuracy of Jesus' prayer. Everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship that will continue our eggciting theme for refreshments, fresh ground and fresh brewed BRC will also be a part of the equation.
Safe travels on all of your journeys my friends,
Pastor Steve

At this time of the year here in Iowa we have a fifth season, the season of orange cones, road construction is well under way so pay attention to temporary arrow signs to merge, maybe to a different lane even during the day, and most of all have patience with the drivers who believe that they should get ahead of you just so that everyone should be traveling at 55 MPH for the next few miles in one lane. When two lanes are again available it looks like a green flag at a NASCAR race. Please be patient and safe.
Tomorrow New Horizons United Church of Christ will begin its' Celebration of Worship with the Sacrament of Holy Communion at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA at 9:00 AM. The message will center on our Gospel text from John chapter fourteen verses one through fourteen and the answer of Jesus to the question from Thomas, "How can we know the way ?" Everyone is welcome at our Communion table.
After our Celebration everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship that will include "eggcitiny" treats and fresh ground and fresh brewed BRC. I will bring my first harvest of rhubarb from my patch. There will be plenty for everyone so dust off your rhubarb receipies and enjoy!
Safe travels in all of your journeys my friends,
Pastor Steve

Much welcomed rain is falling in our part of this third rock from sun and the season of planting hoping for a bountiful harvest is well under way. Please give the big machines on the roads plenty of room and be patient. A very wise farmer once told me, "Never complain about what I do with a full mouth."
Tomorrow our Gospel text from John chapter ten verses one through ten, in a sense, reflects these words but in the context of being a shepherd; listening and following go together, there are voices out there in today's world that we should follow and also voices that we should avoid and dismiss. We will explore each of these in our Celebration of Worship tomorrow beginning at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA. Everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship following our Celebration. "Small Plate" refreshments and fresh ground, fresh brewed BRC will be a part of the equation.
Safe travels in all of your journeys my friends,
Pastor Steve

The season of planting is well under way in our area of Iowa. Growing up in an agrarian community I understand how important it is to prepare the ground for the hope of a successful harvest. Tomorrow at New Horizons United Church of Christ located at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA beginning at 9:00 AM we will explore the many meanings of our Gospel text from Luke chapter twenty four verses thirteen through twenty five and what I believe Jesus thought when He had this discussion with His disciples.
Following our Celebration of Worship everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be welcomed to a time of fellowship where we will discuss the difference between Murphy's Law and Cole's Law, I'm not ribbin' you, it will be a great conversation. Fresh ground and fresh brewed BRC will be a part of the event.
Safe travels in all of your journeys my friends,
Pastor Steve

The promise of Easter and the Resurrection have been fulfilled, so now what is next? Christianity is the only major religion that does not have a shrine at the grave of its' founder because Jesus was resurrected and not called back to physical life so that He would die again. From the beginning of His appearance to His disciples there have been doubters. Tomorrow at 9:00 AM New Horizons United Church will begin its' Celebration of Worship at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA as we explore the many meanings of our Gospel text from John chapter twenty verses nineteen through thirty one .
Everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship following our Celebration along with fresh ground and fresh brewed BRC, sweet treats and good meats will be a part of the equation.
Safe travels in all of your journeys my friends,
Pastor Steve
