Hello FB friends, it is half-time of the Cy - Hawk football game so I will try to make this quick. There are many very intense rivalries in college football and in the state of Iowa this is the most intense. Whether sincere or just made in fun there will be many comments by either side on the performance of the teams. Maybe some "outside additives" will influence the comments and all of a sudden it is realized that, "Maybe I shouldn't have said that because I really didn't mean it"
Tomorrow New Horizons will begin its Celebration of Worship at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA. Our Gospel text from Matthew chapter eighteen verses twenty one through thirty five will explain what a person must do when these comments are offensive or abusive; probably on of the most difficult things to do in the entire bible.
After our Celebration everyone who reads this and everyone that the invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship that will lift up many garden produce. BRC will also be a part of the equation.

Many, many years ago I was on the City Council of Sloan IA, this was way before any type of social media so when a resident wanted to register a complaint that person had to DIAL a phone and without caller ID I would answer the phone and listen to a complaint about a barking dog or a neighbor's unmown lawn and so on and so on. My first response was, "Have you talked to your neighbor about this problem?" One hundred percent of the time the answer was, "No, I don't want to create waves, you do it." My second response was, "It's been nice talking with you" and then hang up. I didn't make many friends doing this however I avoided many unnecessary conflicts.
Tomorrow New Horizons United Church of Christ will begin its Celebration of Worship with the Sacrament of Holy Communion at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA. Our Gospel text will center on Matthew chapter eighteen verses fifteen through twenty. Everyone is welcome at our table. After our Celebration everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship, small plate refreshments will be the order of the day. During my forty one year career as a licensed lay minister in the United Church of Christ I have met many clergy who seem obsessed with the number in attendance at their services and the size of the offering. Some have even told me how many attended their church and asked me directly how many I had. My response has always been, "To me it doesn't make any difference in the number, but I want to make sure that all who attend our Celebrations of Worship will be spiritually fed."
Tomorrow at New Horizons United Church of Christ will begin its Celebration of Worship at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA. We will hear the Gospel text from Matthew chapter sixteen verses twenty one through and the answer that Jesus has for the number of folks gathered.

What is your priority of belief in what other folks think about you? Some folks are obsessed with this question and the plethora of social media makes it easy to find out if you care and don't look in the comment section if you don't care, it's just that simple.

Thank you God for the life giving rain that you have showered on our area of this third rock from the sun this past week. Even though some areas reported heavy rains the soil was so dry that it has quickly dissipated. Everyone who has complete faith in God's sovereign plan is praising and thanking Him.
That same level of praise will be lifted up tomorrow at our Celebration of Worship beginning at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA. as we hear and discern our Gospel text from Matthew chapter fifteen verses ten through twenty eight and the story of the Canaanite woman. After our Celebration everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be welcome to attend a time of fellowship that will echo our "Tacos on the Run" meal this past Wednesday. Fresh ground and fresh brewed BRC will be a part of the equation.

Hello FB friends, this coming Wednesday, August 12, New Horizons will be hosting the meal at the Farmer's Market at the Akron, IA city park. we will be serving our traditional taco meal. Set up will begin about 3:30 PM and we will be serving from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. The mission portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Akron Area Museum. If you are not able to help with the set up then if you are able the clean up will begin after we end serving. Everyone is welcome to attend, share with your friends and come hungry.

Earlier this evening those of us in the Sloan area experienced a brief but somewhat violent thunderstorm. There was no reported damage however there was the blessing of life giving rain. Storms in our physical , as well our emotional and spiritual experiences, often come without warning. Your life can change in an instant or long term, if you receive a life changing diagnosis.
Tomorrow New Horizons United Church of Christ will begin its Celebration of Worship at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA at 9:00 AM. Our Celebration will center on our Gospel text from Matthew chapter fourteen verses twenty two through thirty three. The theme will be, "Keep your eyes on Jesus even during the storm".

Hello folks, New Horizons United Church of Christ will host its' final community story time for the summer at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM on Wednesday, August 5. The theme will be "Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve Silly in the Summer". There will be a time for play, stories and snacks.
Also mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 12, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM New Horizons will be hosting the meal at the Akron Area Farmer's Market. If you would like to participate in any way show up after 4:00 PM.

For the past three weeks our Gospel texts from the thirteenth chapter of Matthew have had, in one way or another, the theme of planting. Thank you to all the farmers who put their trust in God as they plant anticipating a bountiful harvest. Tomorrow beginning at 9:00 AM at 350 Main Street in Akron, IA New Horizons United Church of Christ will Celebrate Worship with the Sacrament of Holy Communion, everyone is welcome at our table. Our Gospel text will be from Matthew chapter fourteen verses thirteen through twenty one and the focus is on one of my favorite things to do - eating! We will explore the many nuances of this profound text.
After our Celebration of Worship everyone who reads this post and everyone that they invite will be extravagantly welcomed to a time of fellowship.
