"Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them." 📖 Matthew 18:19-20

Jesus noted that heaven is enacted in the midst of community. When we connect with one another for mutual support, care, and accountability, we encounter a bit of God's desired connect for all people. We uplift one another.

Who do you find it agreeable to gather with in Jesus' name? Who is an important part of your faith community?

Sunday evening, August 23rd, the Akron United Methodist Church family and friends gathered for a celebration of our pianist Willa Roelle. Our Church was blessed to have Willa share her talent with us for many years! In addition to a great dinner, Pastor Jeff Hanson, accompanied by Linda Hayes, led us all in a hymn sing along, one of Willa's favorite things to do!

"O Love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be." 🎼

A mystical experience inspired the creative process for "O Love that wilt not let me go" (number 480 in The United Methodist Hymnal). Composer George Matheson recounted the experience of writing the hymn:
“My hymn was composed in the manse of Innellan on the evening of the 6th of June, 1882. . . . Something happened to me, which was known only to myself, and which caused me the most severe mental suffering. The hymn was the fruit of that suffering. It was the quickest bit of work I ever did in my life. I had the impression rather of having it dictated to me by some inward voice than of working it out myself.

“I am quite sure that the whole work was completed in five minutes, and equally sure it never received at my hands any retouching or correction."

💭 Have you ever felt a similar nudge or prompting of the Spirit?

Alfred Henry Ackley wrote the hymn "He Lives" (no. 310 in The United Methodist Hymnal) as a response to a couple encounters with disbelief. When faced with questions regarding his faith in Jesus, Ackley noted that he felt Christ's ongoing presence in his everyday life. Christ lived in him and those around him.

🎶 "He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me Along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives:
He lives within my heart."

💭 Where or when have you witnessed the living presence of Jesus lately?
