Known Completely, Loved Completely

Devotional
Real intimacy takes time. You do not deeply know someone after one conversation. You know them because you have shown up again and again, shared the honest parts of yourself, and let them do the same. Knowing Jesus works the same way. It grows through time spent with Him. Through honest prayer, not polished prayer. Through reading scripture and letting it actually land. Through bringing Him your real questions, your real fears, and your real failures. And here is what makes this different from every other relationship: Jesus already knows everything about you. Every doubt, every failure, every part you have tried to hide. And He is still here. Still inviting. Still offering a heart that is new and soft and capable of receiving Him fully. When you truly know Jesus, not just facts about Him, something begins to change from the inside out. You stop trying to perform for God and start wanting to be with Him. Obedience stops being a checklist and becomes a natural overflow of love. You are not too far gone. You are not too complicated. You are not too late. God is offering you a new heart today, a heart made to know Him and be known by Him. The only question left is whether you will receive it.

"I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the Lord; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart." - Jeremiah 24:7

What would your relationship with Jesus look like if you stopped trying to manage your image before God and simply let Him know you as you actually are?

Today Is the Moment

There is a word in scripture that carries more weight than we often give it: today. Hebrews quotes Psalm 95 and repeats it with urgency. "Today, when you hear His voice, do not harden your heart." Not someday. Not when life settles down. Today. Every time you hear God speak, whether through scripture, a conversation, a quiet moment in prayer, or even a message like this, you are standing at a fork in the road. You can receive what He is saying, or you can harden just a little more. There is no middle option. No neutral ground. This is not meant to feel like pressure. It is actually an incredible gift. It means you never have to wait for the perfect moment to draw closer to God. The moment is always now. Think about the relationships in your life that matter most. They did not deepen through grand gestures alone. They grew through small, consistent choices to show up, to listen, to be honest, and to stay open. Your relationship with Jesus works the same way. Every small act of openness today builds something real over time. And today, right now, is a perfectly good place to start.

"That is why the Holy Spirit says, 'Today when you hear His voice, don't harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested me in the wilderness.'" - Hebrews 3:7-8

The Gift You Cannot Earn

Here is something that changes everything: a soft heart toward God is not something you work your way into. It is something He gives you. In Ezekiel, God made a stunning promise. He did not say, "Clean yourself up and then I will give you a new heart." He said, "I will give you a new heart." Full stop. It is a gift, not a reward. This matters because so many of us are quietly exhausted from trying to fix ourselves. We think if we just read more, pray more, or behave better, eventually we will feel close to God. But that approach keeps us in a cycle of performance rather than relationship. Grace works differently. God offers the very thing you cannot produce on your own. A tender, responsive heart that is capable of truly receiving Him. All He asks is that you receive it. Receiving sounds simple, but it can feel terrifying. It means letting go of control. It means allowing God into the parts of your life you have carefully managed on your own. But here is the beautiful reality: when you stop performing and start receiving, something shifts. Obedience stops feeling like a burden and starts feeling like a natural response to being loved well.

"And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new Spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart." - Ezekiel 36:26

How Hearts Grow Hard Without Us Noticing

Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to have a hard heart. It does not happen that way. It happens slowly, quietly, one small decision at a time. A disappointment goes unprocessed. A prayer feels unanswered. Someone in the church hurts you. You sense the Holy Spirit nudging you toward something uncomfortable, and you say no. Then no again. And gradually, without realizing it, your heart begins to harden. Think of a riverbed that has gone dry. Over time, the ground that was once soft and ready to receive water becomes cracked and rigid. When the rain finally comes, it does not soak in. It just runs off. That is what a hardened heart does with God. He shows up with love, with grace, with truth. And instead of sinking in, it slides right off the surface. The hopeful thing is this: recognizing the hardness is the first step toward healing. God is not surprised by where you are. He is not disappointed in you for drifting. He is simply waiting for you to notice and turn back toward Him. You can start right now. Awareness is not defeat. It is an invitation.

When Knowing About God Isn't Enough

There is a difference between knowing facts about someone and truly knowing them. You can memorize everything about a person, their history, their habits, their words, and still be a stranger to them. The same is true with Jesus. Many of us have spent years in church, read scripture, and said our prayers. And yet something feels distant. Like we are standing just outside a door that never quite opens. That distance is real, and it matters. Jesus never intended for us to simply know about Him. He invited us into something far more personal. A living, breathing relationship where He knows us completely and we genuinely know Him in return. That kind of knowing requires more than information. It requires openness. It requires letting Him past the surface level of our lives and into the places we usually keep guarded. Here is the encouraging truth: Jesus is not standing at that door waiting to judge you. He is waiting to meet you. He already knows your doubts, your fears, and your mess. And He is still inviting you in. You do not have to have it all together to take a step closer today. You just have to be willing.

Many people know facts about Jesus without truly knowing Him, and a hardened heart is often what stands in the way. Just as a dry riverbed becomes too hard to absorb water, our hearts can become too hardened by disappointment, pride, and shallow familiarity to receive God's love and truth. The Bible shows this pattern throughout history, from Israel's stubborn refusal to hear God's voice to Paul's sobering words in Rome. But God does not leave us without hope. Through the prophet Ezekiel, He promised to remove our stony hearts and replace them with tender, responsive ones. That transformation is a gift of grace, not something we earn through better behavior. The invitation is open today, and the only question is whether we are willing to receive it.

Keep Asking, Keep Growing

Growing in your knowledge of Jesus is not something that just happens to you. It is something you pursue. And the good news is that you do not have to pursue it alone or in your own strength. Colossians 1:9 shows us that Paul prayed specifically for believers to be filled with spiritual wisdom and understanding. He did not assume they would drift into it naturally. He asked God for it on their behalf. That tells us something important: asking is not a sign of weakness. It is the starting point. Growing in this kind of knowing looks like staying curious about who Jesus is. It looks like letting both the joyful seasons and the hard ones deepen your understanding of His character. It looks like drawing your strength from Him rather than grinding it out on your own. And it is marked by a gratitude that grows the more you realize how much you have been forgiven. You do not have to earn this. You do not have to be smart enough, good enough, or spiritual enough. The cross has already made the way. The Spirit is already here, ready to reveal Jesus to you. All you have to do is ask. This is not a destination you arrive at. It is a lifelong journey of knowing, growing, and being continually surprised by grace. And it is the most worthwhile journey you will ever take.

Knowing That Actually Changes You

Here is a question worth sitting with: does your knowing of Jesus actually change how you live? It is possible to accumulate a lot of spiritual knowledge and still remain largely unchanged. We can attend church, read our Bibles, and say the right things while our pride, our habits, and our priorities stay exactly where they were. But that kind of knowing is just information. Real knowing produces fruit. When you truly encounter Jesus, not just learn about Him, something shifts. You become more loving because you have experienced love that you did not earn. You become more humble because you understand that grace is a gift, not a reward. The transformation is not something you manufacture. It is the natural result of genuine relationship. Paul writes in Romans 12:2 that God transforms us by changing the way we think. That is an ongoing process, not a one-time event. Every time the Spirit reveals more of who Jesus is, our thinking gets reshaped a little more. Our values start to align with His. We begin to see people and situations the way He sees them. This is the kind of Christianity worth having. Not a checklist of rules or a collection of facts, but a living, growing relationship that keeps surprising you with grace.
