❤️ Sometimes ministry looks like a simple act of kindness.

At the Twelve Loaves Food Pantry in New York, volunteers noticed a problem. A small seven-inch step at one of the exits was making it difficult for guests and volunteers to move grocery carts outside. It wasn't a major obstacle, but it was enough to make serving others harder than it needed to be.

Instead of accepting it as "just the way things are," people came together to find a solution.

Engineering students from Rochester Institute of Technology partnered with the pantry, listened to volunteers, studied the challenge, and created a new step-friendly shopping cart designed to make the process easier and more accessible for everyone.

What makes this story so inspiring isn't the cart itself.

It's what the cart represents.

When compassion and creativity come together, barriers begin to fall. Dignity is protected. Service becomes easier. Lives are impacted.

This is what ministry often looks like—not just meeting needs, but looking for ways to love our neighbors better.

As followers of Christ, we're called to see people, notice their struggles, and ask, "How can we help?"

Sometimes the answer is found in a meal.
Sometimes it's found in a conversation.
And sometimes it's found in a simple solution that makes someone's day a little easier.

Meaningful change rarely happens in giant leaps. Most of the time, it happens one thoughtful step at a time.

Have you ever wondered why it's so hard to hear God's voice?

Maybe the better question is:

**Is God silent, or are we distracted?**

We live in a world filled with constant noise. Notifications. News. Social media. Responsibilities. Entertainment. Endless demands on our attention.

Then we pray, asking God to speak, while leaving little room to listen.

The truth is that God often speaks in ways that require us to slow down. Throughout Scripture, we see Him meeting people in quiet places, away from the crowds, distractions, and chaos of everyday life.

Sometimes the problem isn't that God has stopped speaking.

Sometimes we've become too busy to hear Him.

What if hearing God's voice isn't about Him speaking louder, but about us becoming still enough to listen?

📖 "Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10

We've shared a new Everyday Faith article exploring how distractions can affect our relationship with God and practical ways to create space to hear Him more clearly.

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to simply be quiet?

Not praying through a long list.
Not listening to a podcast.
Not scrolling your phone.
Not multitasking.

Just sitting quietly with God.

One of the practices we've been exploring in our spiritual formation study is silence and stillness before God. It sounds simple, but many of us quickly discover how much noise fills our lives—and even our minds.

Recently, I tried to create a quiet space for God. I moved from room to room searching for silence, only to realize that the greatest distraction wasn't around me—it was within me. When I finally slowed down and asked God for help, I found myself in tears.

Sometimes we avoid silence because we're afraid of what we might discover there.

But Scripture tells us:

"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10

Stillness isn't wasted time. It's creating space to become aware of God's presence, hear His voice, and allow Him to work in the places we've been too busy to notice.

You don't need an hour.
You don't need the perfect location.
You don't need a Pinterest-worthy prayer corner.

You just need a willing heart and a few intentional moments with God.

What if some of the spiritual growth we're looking for is waiting on the other side of slowing down?

What's your favorite place to spend quiet time with God? We'd love to hear in the comments.

We're excited to introduce Everyday Faith, a new place on our recently upgraded website dedicated to encouragement, spiritual growth, ministry updates, testimonies, and stories of what God is doing in and through our church family.

As Christians, we are called to encourage one another, share God's truth, bear one another's burdens, and celebrate His faithfulness together. That's the heart behind Everyday Faith.

Here you'll find devotional thoughts, ministry highlights, outreach opportunities, stories of faith, and practical encouragement for everyday Christian living. It will also serve as a place where members of our church family can share what God is teaching them and how He is working in their lives.

Faith was never meant to be lived alone. We grow stronger when we learn from one another, pray for one another, and walk together in Christ.

We invite you to visit Everyday Faith, follow along, and be encouraged as we continue growing together as a church family.

What is one way God has encouraged you recently? We'd love to hear your story in the comments. You can also check out Everyday Faith here: https://www.abingdonnazarene.com/everyday-faith

Edit: Here's more info from NCM:

"Greetings Virginia District Family!

It’s time to prepare for our upcoming Great Gathering and our 2026 Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Offering! Every year, God has led us as a district in supporting an NCM project as a sign of our Unity in Love towards the needs all around the world.

Our offering this year is called A Chicken in Every Pot, supporting Nazarene Food Security Programs around the world .

Through this Project, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries partners with local churches all around the world to provide baby chicks & pigs, small-scale farming, fish farms, education and sources of income.
Many of the programs are geared specifically for women, providing for children and families.

For those who like a bit of fun, try using a chicken as a prop during your church’s promo!

A few inexpensive ideas could be:

Rubber Chicken Chicken
Funny Squeaky Chicken Toy

Join me in trusting God to bring in an offering that only He can provide!

The offering will be taken during our Great Gathering June 22nd & 23rd.

Children will also have a Bike-A-Thon in support of this Project!
