Almost halfway through Part A of Level 1 at Roncalli Primary School. Here they gave me permission to take and share a short clip of our adult work period this afternoon:)

We are having a wonderful week so far, and I’m so grateful for these amazing people, from Aberdeen and beyond, that I get to meet and get to know better through my work of spreading the gift of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd♥️

There are Aberdeen students and parents on pilgrimage in Rome right now and this morning I received a text from one of the parents who has children in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. She sent me this image, saying they got to tour the catacombs and see this image of the Good Shepherd which is the oldest (known) rendering of the Good Shepherd.

Did you know that to the early followers the image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd was one of the most used? In biblical times shepherds were seen as noble, homeless beggars. In Jesus’ time shepherds had an even poorer cultural stereotype. They were seen as unclean because they could not fulfill the Jewish law in the temple since they were with their sheep at all times.

Throughout scripture we read about shepherds and very early in the Bible we can read how God chose this image to help us understand and come in closer relationship with His Son. Shepherds were also the first to be told that Jesus had been born, and the first to visit.

I wonder what this could tell us about God and the way He works in the world and in our lives? I would like to spend some time pondering this and considering why this image was kept so close and important to His early followers.

In today’s day, the image of the Good Shepherd has been seen to universally - across time and cultures - to be the image that most speaks to the heart of the child and their relationship with Christ. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, loves his sheep, calls them by name, and leads them to the best food and drink. How can we as adults reclaim this image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd in our lives and take to heart its truth and meaning?

Tomorrow Level 1a formation begins in Aberdeen. There will be 22 adults receiving the gift of coming closer to God through the same method as the young child. Please keep us all in your prayers!

Yesterday a parent sent me this picture of their child after he got creative with his toys. He set up an atrium prayer table for himself and his student stuffies using his atrium Pentecost gifts (small red candle and gift of the Holy Spirit card he chose - wisdom) and is reading to them from his Bible. So sweet🥰

A few months ago I was in a CGS leadership meeting and my team asked - “why aren’t we fundraising? We could be dreaming so much bigger!”

It spurred a small fundraising team to be developed and soon they will be making asks. If you are interested in monetarily supporting our programming and helping us reach more children and adults with the invitation to follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd, please let me know and someone will schedule a sit down with you to share more about our mission and the ways you can give!

We have some immediate goals we are hoping to reach in the next year AND we will be rolling out an endowment goal so that CGS can sustainably last far into the future for our kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. It gives me goose bumps to think about🥹
