It's the third Tuesday of the month, which means that our senior citizen group, the Long Canites met! We had a delicious lunch, a moving devotional by Lynn, and then Diane lifted our spirits with her Irish music!
We meet again on April 21st at noon. Marsha has arranged for Western Carolina to come in and educate us on the changes that we will be facing with the changes in our Internet provider and television streaming.

We live in a culture caught up by Left versus Right, Liberal versus Traditional, Democrat versus Republican, Progressive versus Conservative, the Rich versus the Poor, the Elites versus the People, and so on and so forth. The Church, sadly and unfortunately, often finds itself in the crossfire of the culture war. So how can we as Christians cultivate a discerning and peace-making voice in these times? How can we choose the Way over self-serving agendas of the World that are handed to us by those in power?

Join us this Sunday (March 1st) and next (March 8th) for a special two-part message titled "The Upside-Down Kingdom" that will dig deep into Luke 6 for insights into how we can better follow Jesus.

This month our sermon series will focus on an important biblical Greek word: KOINONIA! Although the nearest-best English translation of that word is "community" - there are important aspects of what a community is and does that we find in the Bible that our modern world lacks. This is an important conversation for us to have, because if you've been paying attention to trends and analytics about religion and church attendance in this country, then you know that we are declining in many ways. And yet, these same polls often reveal that people are still spiritual or possess a faith of some kind. This means that people are finding community outside of the Church; they are connecting with others in ways that have made Church obsolete for social gatherings and friendships. Perhaps this trend reveals to us that for many decades, we've made Church mostly about your Sunday attendance and little else. But, as I'll teach in my sermon series, there is more to Church than simply showing up on time on Sunday morning.

Our senior citizens group, the Long Canites, had a delightful Christmas celebration today. We started with lots of delicious finger foods. After we ate, Stan Colbert presented an incredible program with music and words that touched our hearts in this Christmas season. Be sure to watch the second post that has videos of Stan's beautiful music and the most hilarious version of The 12 Days of Christmas ever performed.

Please come prepared to honor those who have joined the cloud of witnesses above. Don't get tripped up by Daylight Savings Time this morning!

"Following Orders" Joshua 6
A special military-themed sermon will be delivered in tribute to all who have served.

November 16th - Guest Preacher
Pastor Gordon will be away on a much-needed pastor's retreat. Enjoy this Sunday together!

Afterwards we will begin decorating the Christmas tree!

November 30th - Advent Sunday @ Upper Long Cane

We will have a special "Presbyterianism 101" Sunday School class in our Fellowship Hall at 10:00 AM led by the pastor.
