President Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will deliver a keynote address at the Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Washington, D.C.

The event, titled “Faith, Freedom and the Common Good,” will explore the relationship between religious faith and American democracy. President Oaks will speak on faith, religious liberty and the United States Constitution on the eve of Constitution Day.

The free event begins at 6 p.m. EDT in the cathedral’s nave and will be available online via livestream.

New Welfare Center Opens in Freetown Stake

On September 8, 2026, the Freetown Sierra Leone Stake Welfare Specialist and Relief Society Presidency officially opened a second gathering place at the Godrich/Adonkia Ward. This new center focuses on Gara tie-dye training (a 3-month course), complementing the existing tailoring center at Lumley Ward.

Following a devotional on Wednesday with Elder Clark G. Gilbert of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, 161 missionaries from the Sierra Leone Bo Mission visited the Freetown Sierra Leone Temple site. The visit coincided with Elder Gilbert’s first time to Sierra Leone as an Apostle, during which he met with Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh in Freetown to discuss opportunities for the Church and the Sierra Leone government to strengthen education in the country. Elder Gilbert Tells Sierra Leone Vice President: ‘We Are Here for the Long Term’

In his first visit as an Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Sierra Leone, Elder Clark G. Gilbert met with His Excellency Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh in Freetown on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Much of their conversation focused on ways the Church of Jesus Christ and the Sierra Leone government can improve the country’s education.
“We love your people, and we are here for the long term,” Elder Gilbert told the vice president. “We have friends of all faiths and are invested in your country. We expect God to bless this country, and we will do our best to help in that.”
