Can we really be certain that Jesus is the Christ – God’s King come in all God’s authority? Luke gives us certainty of this, and what kind of Christ Jesus is.

Jesus explains that the Son of Man must suffer, be rejected, and be killed before being raised to life. This fulfils God’s plan revealed throughout the Old Testament: to lead His people in a greater exodus out from sin and death, and bring them to His holy mountain. The transfiguration and His resurrection offers a preview of His divine glory, pointing forward to the day He will return again glorious.

Jesus is the centerpiece of all history and God’s plans. More significant than any human invention, He is God’s King who will save His people. This is good news not only for Israel, but for the whole world. Therefore, the question Jesus asks His disciples becomes the question each of us must contend with: “Who do you say I am?” (Luke 9:20).

As we reflect on this question, may we consider whether we are truly certain about who Jesus is. He is worthy and deserves our all-in faith in Him. Let us ask God to help us live in line with the confession of our faith—to daily deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him.

"God desires male headship in the Church and all households. This is a good thing."

Last Saturday, our BA men gathered for a time of learning, sharing and encouragement over God's word. We are so thankful for this community of brothers-in-Christ!

As Christians, we don't bow down before statues of gold and silver... but what about money, career, relationships, marriage and family? What about cultivating personal glory and curating that perfect image of the "Good Christian Boy/Girl" or Christian family?

Idolatry isn’t just about statues—it’s about what captures our trust, love, and identity in place of God. It may even be present in our prayers to God, or what we are afraid to pray for!

Come and hear more about why we all face the temptations of idolatry, and what should really take first place in our hearts.

Why bother responding to Jesus? To respond rightly means having faith in Jesus’ words and in the person of Jesus.

Luke reveals in chapter 8:22-39 the maniacal life under the forces of evil through a demon possessed man living among the tombs. Yet, Jesus demonstrated His absolute power and authority as the Son of the Most High God and frees this man completely. He alone is able to rescue humanity and restore a controlled, orderly and good life that’s lived under the rule of a good God.

We also saw two very different responses to Jesus in this passage. The townsfolk, overwhelmed by fear, rejected Him. In contrast, the man who was healed longed to follow Him. This same choice confronts us today: Will we choose to respond rightly by laying down our lives and follow Him joyfully, rather than return to the chaos of the maniacal life? Let us ask God for help to have continual faith in Jesus!

Who is a citizen in God’s kingdom? Luke shows us the kind of people Jesus brings salvation to. They are not the first people that come to mind—the outsiders, the outcasts and anyone in desperate need. Similarly, the people that are not in God’s kingdom are least expected—the pharisees and the lawyers who reject the purpose of God for themselves, refusing to admit their sin. They did not think they needed cleansing. The faithful outsider looks more like God’s people than the faithless Jews.

Jesus is a friend of wretched sinners. Let’s reflect and appreciate the breadth and depth of Jesus’ salvation. We can be confident in Jesus alone, not swayed by rejection.
