A big church in a good way. We are all about encouraging people, real community, and encountering God every day. Sound familiar?

We seek much more than to build Bethlehem Baptist Church, we seek to build a community of believers. BBC Started in 1988 when a few people got together in a home to study the bible and worship. A few years after that Craig & Michaela came on staff and have stuck around, along with a tonne of other people along the way. The culture of BBC has always been about loving God, then loving people. These fundamentals don't change, and you can feel it when you walk in. These days BBC is quite a large community, over 2500 people. A lot of people are involved with serving on some level behind the scenes which helps us all get to know each other. Our size also gives us the opportunity to run great events for the wider Tauranga community like Easter Journey & A Night Before Christmas and many smaller events. People also connect in smaller numbers with three Sunday services including a night service, seminars and home groups, Mainly Music and loads more. Youth and children are a huge deal for us so we give them their own space on Sunday and throughout the week. “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51 is the prayer of someone who has stopped hiding. David cannot undo what he has done. He cannot make himself clean. So he turns towards God and asks for mercy, forgiveness and a changed heart. Repentance is more than regret. It is an invitation to bring what is really happening within us into the light and allow God to do His renewing work. And because we live on this side of the cross, we know where that invitation leads:

To Jesus.
To forgiveness.
To cleansing.
To grace.
To a new beginning.

Bring us back to You, O Lord!

“The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.” Psalm 23 is one of the most familiar passages in the Bible, but what would it look like to actually live as though the Lord is our Shepherd?

Following Jesus as our Shepherd requires trust and dependence, and learning to recognise His voice in a noisy world. Psalm 23 does not promise a life without valleys, but something far greater: a Shepherd who provides, restores, leads and stays with us through them all.

What has your attention? This Sunday, Monica Carey launched our new Psalms Playlist series with Psalm 1 and a reminder that we are all being shaped by something. The voices we listen to. The content we consume. The things we repeatedly think about. The small choices we make every day.

Psalm 1 gives us another picture: a tree planted beside streams of water. Deeply rooted. Stable. Fruitful. Those roots grow as we learn to slow down, delight in God’s Word and really chew on it rather than simply skim, scroll and move on.

Whatever season you are in right now, the invitation is the same: Plant yourself deeply in God. Let the Holy Spirit grow the fruit.

What if being sent by Jesus starts closer than we think?

At the end of Mark, we read Jesus' call to His followers: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel." For some, "Go" may mean another country. For many of us, it might mean across the street, into the workplace, around the dinner table, or towards someone we already see every week.

The question isn't "How can I reach the whole world?" It could simply be: "What part can I play?" The good news is that we never go alone. Jesus sends us, and He walks with us every step of the way.

What if wholehearted surrender isn’t where discipleship begins, but where time with Jesus eventually leads us?

Every time we meet Mary of Bethany in Scripture, she seems to be in the same place: at the feet of Jesus, either learning, grieving or worshipping. Over time, that repeated posture transformed her. At the dinner in Bethany she broke open an alabaster jar of extraordinarily valuable perfume, poured it over Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair.

The lesson here is not to try harder and give Jesus everything, Mary did not arrive at this kind of surrender instantly. Her devotion grew as she repeatedly sat at Jesus’ feet and came to know Him. He is the One who first loved us, gave Himself for us and was poured out on the cross for us.
