WHAT IT MEANS TO BE CHRIST-LIKE

SCRIPTURE READING “Take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces HIS character in you.” Ephesians 4:22-24 (MSG)

Many religions and philosophies promote the old lie that people are divine or can become gods. Let me be absolutely clear: You will never become God or even a god.

That prideful lie is Satan’s oldest temptation. Satan wanted Adam and Eve to follow HIS advice and promised them: “You will be like God . . .” (Genesis 3:5 NIV).

This desire to be a god shows up every time you try to control your circumstances, your future, or people around you. But you’re a creature; you will never be the Creator. God doesn’t want you to become a god; HE wants you to become godly, taking on HIS values, attitudes, and character.

The Message paraphrase says you are meant to “take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces HIS character in you” (Ephesians 4:22-24).

God’s purpose for your life isn’t to make you comfortable. HE wants you to grow up spiritually and become like Christ.

Becoming like Christ does not mean losing your personality or becoming a mindless clone. God created your uniqueness, so he doesn’t want to destroy it. Christlikeness is all about transforming your character, not your personality.

When you forget that transforming your character is one of God’s purposes for your life, it’s easy to become frustrated by your circumstances. You wonder, “Why is this happening to me? Why am I having such a difficult time?” One reason is that this world is broken. God never promised that life would be easy—but difficulty enables you to grow. Remember, earth is not heaven.

In John 10:10, Jesus promises: “I have come that they may have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (NKJV). Many Christians misinterpret this promise of abundant life to mean perfect health, a comfortable lifestyle, constant happiness, full realization of your dreams, and instant relief from problems through faith and prayer.

In a word, they expect the Christian life to be easy. They expect heaven on earth.

But God is not your genie or your servant. If you fall for the idea that life is supposed to be easy, you will become severely disillusioned and live in denial of reality.

The truth is, life is not about you! You exist for God’s purposes, not vice versa. Why would God provide heaven on earth when HE’s planned the real thing for you in eternity?

God gives you your time on earth to build and strengthen your character—so you’ll be ready for an eternity in heaven.

IT IS ALL FOR GOOD

Today's Scripture: "Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, SHE WAS FOUND WITH CHILD." Matthew 1:18

The phrase used in our key verse (Matt 1:18) to capture Mary's pregnancy sounds so unexpected. It expresses an event that took place suddenly - something that happened outside any human plan. Neither Mary nor Joseph budgeted for what" Mary was "found" with. It was a complete interruption of whatever plan she and Joseph had. Of course, both of them must have had their own plans - perhaps a plan for having children and when to start. But God just came onto the scene suddenly, as if from nowhere. He shattered his own plans, whatever they were, and introduced His own.

Often, divine visions and assignments are introduced into our lives in such a SUDDEN and INTERRUPTING manner, devoid of human reasoning or effort. They often come upon us in a manner that is so obvious we never had any hand in incubating or hatching the process. We neither pre-meditated them nor made any effort toward developing or venturing into such things.

It could even be that we had something that was completely opposite of what we found ourselves "saddled' with by the Lord. And no matter how we try to pretend it's not there, or how we try to hide it so that others don't notice it, it just keeps on BREATHING and DEVELOPING, just like a foetus in the womb. And with the passage of time, it keeps bulging, making itself more and more visible for all eyes to see, even without our permission, just like pregnancy cannot be hidden.

The best we can do at such a time is to make a deliberate effort at understanding what such "divine interruption" is all about. We need to understand what it is that God is introducing into our lives and ministry, what are the implications of being the bearers or carriers of such divine treasures. And, we also need to know the necessary attitudes, characters, and disciplines we must develop, in order to manage well "this thing" we suddenly find ourselves with.
God's plan is always the best, even though you may not understand it.

Prayer for Today: My Father in heaven, thank You for giving me Your love through Christ Jesus. LORD, help me to align with Your plan for my life. In the Name of Jesus Christ.... Amen.

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO GREAT OUTCOMES

Though your beginning was was insignificant, yet your end will increase greatly.

Anyone who underrates the power of little may not be able to experience abundance. If you want to experience the blessing of more, you can't afford to toy with the power of less. Until you learn to contribute the little you have towards solving a ‘huge’ problem, you won't understand that small is actually big indeed. If you asked that little boy who gave his lunch pack of five loaves and two fish to Jesus Christ (John 6:1-14) he would tell you that you would not know what God could do with the little you have until you release it to meet the Master’s need.

Big miracles start with little steps of faith. Giving her last meal (The widow of Zarephath 1 King 16:12) saved her from dying of hunger. A woman’s last jar of oil paid her huge debt and made her rich. Interpreting two men’s dreams (Genesis 40:5-22 ) took Joseph out of prison and landed him in the palace. David had just a sling and some stones ( 1Samuel 16:49) but with them he brought Goliath down! There is a 'little' gift which God has placed in your hands that He wants you to use as a tool of blessing others so that by so doing, you too can be highly honoured and blessed.

By believing that you don’t have what it takes, you are only suppressing the grace of God upon your life. The truth is, God doesn’t put anything in man in the finished form. He drops it there as a raw material and expects you to develop it to the finished form. Taking obedient steps of faith comes in here. Until you start considering how to use the little you have to take care of unmet needs around you, you may not get to realize that your little means much indeed.

WHAT GOD REQUIRES OF YOU?

Micah 6:8 NASB
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you - But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?

Some Christians try all kinds of ways to please God, but God has made His wishes clear: He wants his people to be just, love, kindness and walk humbly with Him.
1. Let me elaborate -Act justly means make fair choices, speak truth, respect others.
2. Love mercy means show kindness, help someone, forgive and
3. Walk humbly with God - Pray, listen to God, stay grateful. In your efforts to please God examine these areas on a regular basis.

Being religious (going to church, serving on fellowships, giving charity) is not enough if we do not act out of devotion and obedience to God. That's why Jesus Christ condemned the Pharisees and religious leaders (Matthew 23:23-28)
they outwardly appeared saintly and holy but inwardly remaining full of corruption and greed. Living our Christianity merely as a show for others is like washing a cup on the outside only, when we are clean on the inside, our cleanliness on the outside won't be a sham.

Do one thing that's fair/right today. Show kindness to someone and check in with God (pray/reflect).
