ITโ€™S GOOD TO KNOW | For Catholics, the ashes traced on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday are a powerful, quiet sermonโ€”one that speaks before we say a word.

First, the ashes remind us of our humanity.

As the minister says, โ€œRemember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.โ€ The ashes confront us with the truth we often forget: we are fragile, finite, and dependent on God. They humble us. They place us back in our proper placeโ€”not as masters of life, but as stewards of a gift.

Second, the ashes are a call to conversion.

The other formula says, โ€œRepent, and believe in the Gospel.โ€ The ashes are not just about death; they are about change. They mark the beginning of Lent as a journey of turning away from sin and turning back to Godโ€”with our hearts, not just our habits.

Third, the ashes are a public confession of faith.

We wear them openly, on our foreheads, not to show off holiness, but to admit need. We stand before the world and quietly say: I am a sinner in need of mercy. In a culture that prizes perfection and image, ashes declare honesty and dependence on grace.

Fourth, the ashes unite us with Christ.

Ashes come from palms once raised in praise on Palm Sunday. What was once a sign of triumph becomes a sign of surrender. This mirrors the path of Jesusโ€”from glory to the Crossโ€”reminding us that true life comes through self-giving love.

Finally, the ashes point beyond themselves.

They are temporary. We wash them off. But what must remain is a changed heartโ€”a heart more prayerful, more compassionate, more just, more faithful.

In short, ashes say to us:
You are loved, but you are not self-made.
You are weak, but grace is stronger.
You will dieโ€”but in Christ, death is not the end.

A small cross of ashes, yesโ€”but with a very big meaning.

Jesus said to St. Margaret Mary, โ€œIn the excess of the mercy of my heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.โ€

To gain this grace, we are encouraged to:

+ Receive holy Communion on nine consecutive first Fridays.

+ Have the intention of honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus and of reaching final perseverance.

+ Offer each holy Communion as an act of atonement for offenses against the Blessed Sacrament.

Below are the last of 12 promises connected to the Devotion to the Sacred Heart, particularly attached to the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart in oneโ€™s home:

-I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.
- I will establish peace in their homes.
- I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
- I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.
- I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.
- Sinners will find in my heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
- Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.
- Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
- I will bless every place in which an image of my heart is exposed and honored.
- I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
- Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart.
- I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

Feast of the Baptism of the Lord | January 11, 2026

On January 11, the Church celebrates one of the key events in Jesus' life: His baptism.

When John the Baptist preached in the desert, offering a baptism of repentance, Jesus came to be baptized by him. Although John felt unworthy of baptizing the Lord, Jesus insisted it be done. Thus, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, and after emerging from the water, the Holy Spirit descended in the form of a dove, and a voice from heaven declared: "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

On this Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we remember Christ as he manifests Himself to the world, marking the start of His three years of public ministry. Jesus, being sinless in every way, had no need to ever receive baptism. Yet, despite all of this, He chose to be baptized willingly, not because He was tainted by sin, but because He wished to be connected to the whole of humanity by taking upon Himself our sins and the consequences of our sins, thereby paving the way for His ultimate sacrifice on the Cross for salvation.

This Baptism reveals Jesus' obedience to God the Father, who, alongside the Holy Spirit, signifies the manifestation of the Holy Trinity and the mission of Christ's salvation.

May we reflect on the Lord's baptism today as a sign of our own new life through Jesus and commitment to God.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’ฏ
